I don’t know much, but I have never heard of what you are throwing out into the ethos, unless you are trying to install OS8 on a MacPro I have never heard or seen Apple cripple firmware for their modern computers. If you want to install Leopard on your Quadra 605, you might be out of luck, but for now it supports PowerPC G4 and G5 architecture as well as Intel architecture. I am one to entertain the notion of conspiracy theories, but come on man, what are you talking about?

Next, I’ve bought systems from Apple that you can only install the system that came on it or better. You cannot go backwards. If you’ve been doing this for a while you know that. Sure you can install a new system on an older model. I have Tiger on my PISMO powerbook.
But check with Apple before buying a System pre-installed with Leopard. You may not be able to install Tiger. I never said you couldn’t I said make sure that haven’t crippled that ability.

Just make sure Apple hasn’t crippled the ability to boot into Tiger. As with previous new systems, once a new OS is released, Apple firmware cripples the machine to boot with an older OS.

Usually what I do after using a DVD recorder is use MPEG Stream Clip to pull out the M2V and AC3 files and then bring them into DVDSP and make my own menu. I only do this for quick preview disks because it is real time encoded. When I make a final master DVD I’l use compressor or BitVice depending.

Long time Media 100 user also made the switch to FCP a year ago and haven’t looked back. I recently added the Kona 3 with the K3Box and the AJA IO and it gives me all in the in / outputs Media 100 had plus the added benefits of all the HD flavors.
It all works flawlessly. AJA has the best tech support, which is free– no ridiculous contracts to pay to talk to a human being on the phone. If there is a problem they cross ship another product on their nickel. Something Media 100 would never do.
Plus you get uncompressed 10 bit and all the other flavors.

Over here in LA -Universal Studios, a lot of the new shows have moved to FCP. Some of these shows have not aired yet. There’s been some grumbling by long time Avid users, but it is just cheaper in the long run, and it doesn’t matter what you cut on as editing is an art, not about the tools. So they grumbled but it was cheaper to buy a bunch of FCP for everyone then just having a few Avid rentals.
