  • What do you need to do next with the file that you’re rendering?

What are you doing when it crashes?

What are your system specs? Any third-party plugins? Have you tried resetting your preferences?

April 4, 2019 at 10:47 pm in reply to: Moving text around a corner

    1. Create a regular comp TEXT for all your text.
    2. Create two comps, LEFT and RIGHT, each at half the width of the TEXT comp.
    3. Put the TEXT comp into both the LEFT and RIGHT comps, aligning the edges so they each reveal their own half of the original.
    4. Create a new comp SCENE at your desired output size, bring your LEFT and RIGHT comps into it, make them 3D layers, and rotate/position them to meet at an angle. (Alternately, use CC Power Pin to distort them in 2D to make them look 3D).

Comp settings are “sticky” and you can’t set a default. Ae just remembers the settings of the last comp you made.

  • “Continuously rasterize” and “Collapse transformations” share the same switch. It’s “continuously rasterize” when you’re applying it to a vector layer or a solid, and it’s “collapse transformations” when you apply it to a comp layer.

You want to enable collapse transformations for your precomp layer in the containing comp, and if you have any vector/solid layers in the precomp itself, you probably want to enable continuously rasterize for them.

March 29, 2019 at 3:23 pm in reply to: Corner pin expression tab in CC2018 ???

[Steve Bentley] “Hey Walter, is that AE2018 on Mac perhaps? I don’t see that feature in 2018 on win7. (a pickwhip for each attribute). I’ve checked my columns and I can see the parent choice. I do see it in 2019 PC however. “

I’m on PCs, too. I see it in v15.1.1 — I think this feature was not present in v15.0, and was added in v15.1.

[Steve Bentley] “On another note related to Corner Pin. I’ve always found the AE corner pin way too soft. The CC powerPin creates a much sharper warp. They do work slightly differently from each other (CC has more features).”

I’ll second CC PowerPin. I can’t think of a single case where I’d choose Corner Pin over CC PowerPin. It’s reasonably high-quality, it’s got great interactive controls in the viewer panel, the perspective distortion is adjustable, and it can do reverse warps.

Can you post a couple of screenshots that show both the problem and your entire Ae UI, so that we can see what you are seeing?

  • If you have position keyframes set, and you want to Pan Behind so that the entire animation is affected equally, you must park the CTI (current time indicator — the playhead) on one of those position keyframes, then select all of the position keyframes (you can just click on the Position property in the timeline to do this), and then perform your Pan Behind action.

March 28, 2019 at 9:33 am in reply to: what this button does?

That’s an exposure control for the viewer. If you need to see a subtle difference in shadow detail, you can crank up the exposure to better evaluate. You can quickly reset exposure by clicking the aperture icon. Any exposure adjustments here affect the viewer panel only; they will not render.

March 25, 2019 at 9:49 pm in reply to: Exporting H.264 Files Larger Than 4,096

[Moira Elefsen] “I have to export videos for large screen arrays, and if anyone can suggest a resource that has more info in that area, it would be helpful.”

You should speak with the technicians responsible for playback. Different systems have different specs, and we can only guess at them here.
