I would pre-compose the the loop and the motion path layers, then use time-remapping on the precomped layer to create the hold.

Ae can also now convert vector layers to native Ae shapes. Right-click the vector layer, then choose Create > Create shapes from vector layer.
A little bit of prep in Illustrator goes a long way in being able to animate in Ae.

One other thing I should mention– in some cases, compositing the original back on top will not really give you the “dry/wet” mix you’re looking for. Effects where pixels affect their neighbors, like blurs and glows, look very different when you adjust their strength vs. comping the original back in.
In these cases, it’s really best to modify the strengths of the effects directly.

You can use CC Composite as the last effect in your stack. It blends the original layer source back on with your choice of blend mode, opacity, and RGB or RGBA.

Can you tell us a little more about your workflow? What format are you rendering to? How are you evaluating the render? Do you have any color management enabled? What system will use these renders, and for what purpose? Do you have any deliverable specs that you need to meet?

That’s called the console. I think it’s mainly used by tech support and there’s not a lot that a user can do in there. There’s a hotkey for it in Ae’s Keyboard Shortcut Editor, but I’d be really careful about changing anything.

Check out the settings in the Preview panel (which you may need to resize to see all the options). Perhaps “Cache before playback” is checked?

They’re not roving keyframes, are they?
Can you reduce the project to just the offending sequence and post it (without footage)?
