As with any interface, give yourself a week or two and you’ll completely forget you ever worked on anything else.
The interface is the least of my worries. I’m more concerned with locking tracks in place, turning off the magnetic timeline when warranted, Import / Export to / from other apps, other facilities, Edit to Tape / Log and Capture, etc…
If you can’t learn a new interface, you’re doomed in this industry. All applications re-invent their interfaces from time to time. The only problems come when the app developer doesn’t continue to support features needed by many in the industry. Fortunately when that happens, we have other NLE’s to choose from.

According to those who know much more than I do, apps from the App Store are harder to pirate because of some sort of coding that’s in the app. Something to do with the installation process and markers on the computer that did the download.

If you need to edit now, get FCP and get going.
If you can wait till June, just get the MacBook Pro and start playing with iMovie since the new FCP takes its interface cues from that app.

You’re not the one who is going to ruin the relationship, the company has set a finite dollar amount and will not pay anything above that.
So you need to work with your immediate client and suggest ways to trim back the production shoot because the primary company has made it clear they will not pay for 14 hour days. Something has to give and that’s time. You and your client will have to look at everything and create a priority list.
“I MUST have these shots.”
“I would LIKE to have these shots.”
“IF we can get these shots I’d be happy.”
Then each day you work down the line. MUST have is shot first. LIKE to have shot second. IF is shot third.
Every one of my clients understand the time vs. budget scenario and this is how I work out situations like this with my clients. Take the proactive approach with your immediate client and help work out the priority list. Even suggesting ways to cut down on downtime, etc..

Do NOT do any work with the client until the PO either allows for Overtime or you are willing to simply forego that overtime.
Working it out “after the shoot” can cause a host of issues. The billing dept. can come back to you say you agreed to that PO before the shoot no matter what your immediate client says.
No idea how large this company is, but in these days of tight budgets and number crunching, do not expect that you will receive the overtime just because you bill for it. They have allocated a specific amount of money for your project. Do not exceed that amount without prior authorization from the people who will actually cut the check.

Why are you using the BlackMagic Videohub with an AJA Kona board? Seems unnecessary.
Have you taken that out of the equation to see if that helps? Also, I would try connecting to the HD-SDI out of the deck, directly to the Kona and perform the downconvert via the Kona instead of the deck.

Thanks for passing that along.
Disconnecting a third party external hardware is always a good first step when something doesn’t quite operate correctly on a Mac, especially when booting up.

If you don’t find what you want from within FCP, look at Red Giant Software, Boris FX and Nattress for plug-ins that will mimic the transitions from Keynote.

You cannot simply “place” a plug-in. You have to install it.
You do still have the original installer and serial number, correct? Just re-run the installer, it places itself.
