Have been (and still am a bit…) up against it, so I won’t get a chance to have a proper look at your expressions in action until early on next week. for now, dan’s expressions you pointed me towards have done the trick.
Thanks for your help mate!

May 7, 2006 at 7:27 pm in reply to: Inheriting properties, and holding them using an expression.Yeah that would do it, but is it possible to make it even more ‘automatic’. let’s say that the layer that’s inheriting the null’s position has an in point of 2 seconds, rather than type that time value in manually, is there a way that the expression can say “okay, this layers in point is at 2 seconds, what’s the nulls position at 2 seconds? i’m going to take that value and hold it…”
the reason i need the automation is that the comp will be holding a whole heap of layers and in the variations i’m going to be making i’ll be using the ‘sequence layers’ command a fair bit hence the values are going to be changing quite a bit – if they can be calculated automatically then that’ll save me a heap of time for sure.
thanks for your help man.

you’re on windows, right? this method works for all windows which have a menu associated with them:
while the windows title/menu bar is off the screen, you can press ‘alt’ and ‘spacebar’ together. this should bring up your window menu at the top of your main screen. press ‘M’ to activate the ‘move’ command. now use the arrow keys to reposition your window somewhere you can see it. this is especially useful if you’ve gone from a 2 monitor set-up to a hi-res 1 monitor set up but you forgot to relocate your palletes before making the switch… (ahem…) in this case you’d re-select the pallete that’s dissappeared off the end of your screen from the applications menu (this should make it active) and then you’d repeat the process i’ve outlined above.
hope this helps…
