Crunch all your 5D footage into ProRes using this:

Like Ola said, working in H264 seems like a bad idea.

Well they would essentially get one long timeline back yes. Bad if they have dissolves. The way to deal with dissolves in this case would be to undo them in the timeline (giving the handles necessary to re-create them) and then redo them upon reassembly. Pain in the ass, sure.
But you should be able to get reels going in theory even without timecode, no? I assume that the filename of each piece of media is unique, correct? If you export an EDL with reel names taken from file names, and in Resolve assign the */R%.* pattern to reel name extraction, your EDL reels and file reels should align, and even if each of them starts on TC 00:00:00:00 you should be fine.

Don’t know how it works in Premiere, but worst case scenario is export the full project and use scene detector to split it up in Vinci.

February 5, 2011 at 10:20 pm in reply to: Feature Request :Multilayer Timeline and XML is a mustWell I think we can all agree that more features are always better if they don’t sacrifice anything. We all would like perfect multilayer XML support with compositing and multi-mode blending (I’d personally love Delivery.com integration so Resolve can order me food for those late night sessions!)
I seriously doubt anyone at Blackmagic wakes up and says “hey let’s not make all these things because we don’t feel like it” – I’m sure any one of those features requires a ton of work and they have to decide whether it’s worth it, considering their market.
In the end the best solution is to use the correct tool for the job. If color is that tool, use it. If Flame is that tool, use that. If the Resolve guys see you using another product and they want you as a customer then they’ll work on adding the features you’re missing.
That being said I agree with the sentiment of priority – of all the things that could be added to Resolve right now, support for complicated multilayer timelines is probably at the top of that list.

It would be a cool little feature if Resolve could media manage stuff in its media pool. Just a simple “copy to and relink media to target drive” on the browse page. This could be used along with “add clips based on EDL” to neatly media manage a project without 3rd party tools.
Not really a crucial feature because of the 3rd party tools that do this.

Ola, are you talking about the extention in the media pool or your EDL?
In the media pool, the pattern */%R.* should cut off the .mov since it reads the name until the “.”

If speed is what you care about, right now the best thing to do is make some macro keys – either on your keyboard, a G13, or some other extra button controller.
The Wave has only so many always-there buttons. Since the last update I feel like it’s about 90% there in terms of efficiency. Of course full customization could make it work even better for everyone’s styles, but again, some extra macro keys work wonders in that dept.

Have you tried switching EDL Notes from Clip Names to File Names? Since file names is what Resolve will be looking for with the */%R.* tag
