Actually, I was typing without reading, or thinking ;-). Read 7mbs CBR. By that, I mean that the difference will likely not be visible in quality, but you might just cut the render time in half or more.

If you are going with PCM audio, and not additional menus, I would go for 6.2 CBR. IMO, VBR 2 pass is a waste of time for that length. As for why it doesn’t fit with 2 pass, could it be that the insufficient space is for the temp files for your hard drive ?

For the highlight, you can either add the glow effect, or change the color in the Roughen Edges effect.

BTW, I guess if you could create a roughened edged alpha in Photoshop thick enough to cover the picture’s edges, you might be able to make it work too…

Do you have After Effects ? The problem here is that you can’t really apply a layer on top of the picture without covering the curtain. So, applying a mask on a curtain with roughened edges is really the easiest way to achieve it (that I can think of). Then, just lay the pictures behind that animation. Make sure you render as RGB+alpha (screen Cap and project below)

What kind of video card are you using ? Does it have an overlay option ?
I use a DSR 40 without any issues…

Use Time Remapping in After Effects. I think that’s your best bet.

Yes, you are correct, it does have an option to export to either format, but as far as I know, Premiere will not produce an adequate conversion. The only thing you can do without a prior conversion to NTSC is export to PAL, and play the footage on a PAL system.
Sadly, Procoder isn’t cheap, but that’s the only software that has given me satisfactory results, other than a hardware based system. I believe they do have a trial version, but I’m not sure about limitations involved.
