As long as you’ve done a factory reset, it sounds like a bad board.
You could try a firmware update first just a case.

Hi Lonnie,
Are we talking live event capture? If this is a situation where you can’t afford failure, then I would recommend hardware capture, either Aja KiPros or Pix series from Sound Devices, and even with those, we have a backup.
If you are able to do a backup capture with the cameras, then you could experiment with software capture, but there are so many more possible failure points that it doesn’t seem worth it to me.

As long as the deck supports PAL (and the tape isn’t SECAM), component out would be your best option in that case. Do buy from a source you can return the item to if it doesn’t work out.

Hi Patrick,
If you are capturing through firewire, you are basically converting to DV, which is highly compressed.
If you want better quality, you will have to look at an AJA, or Blackmagic card that lets you take component in and spit out Prores or uncompressed.

I think you can export, but it’s really designed to sync cameras for editing. And yes, Final Cut will be cheaper over the long run.

It works with Final Cut as well. It works very well, I haven’t seen any other software come close to what Pluraleyes does for multi-cam as long as you have good audio.

You export to XML and import that into Premiere.

Never heard of the Startech switcher (the price is very low for a reliable product in a live event setting).
You will get a glitch with most standalone matrix switchers, unless you involve a scaler and some processing (Barco Encore for example).
To minimize those glitches, make sure all computers are identical, and at the same resolution and refresh rate.
I would also recommend renting. You could look at an Extron matrix switcher, that should be pretty affordable on the rental side.
