Another reason I nest sequences is because it makes it easy to put transitions between the segments. For example, I cut together the “Bride getting ready” and save the sequence. Then, I cut together the “Groom getting ready” and save that sequence. Then, in a separate sequence, I butt the two sequences together and I’m able to put whichever transition there that I like.
I find this helps me to keep things organized, too.
There’s, no doubt, other (and perhaps better) ways to work. I’ve been doing it this way with FCE4 (as mentioned), however, when I started doing it in FCP7, I’ve been having re-rendering problems.

That really surprises and disappoints me. I’ve done it often in FCE4 and, for the most part, it has worked pretty well. Does the problem have something to do with the codec (AIC vs. ProRes)?
The reason I nest is I do two versions of weddings for brides: a full-length version, and a condensed “Highlights” version. I usually edit the full-length sequence down to the key moments of the wedding; that way, I don’t have to make two complete versions from scratch.
I do a fair bit of compositing, so I upgraded to ProRes so as to maintain quality. I’ve never had any (or, at least, very little) trouble nesting sequences in FCE4. Hmmm… now I’m puzzled and confused! Does this problem have anything to do with the chosen codec? Is there some other way you know of to get around the problem?

Actually, Cade, I believe it can be unregistered (or de-registered) so that it can be re-sold. I can’t imagine spending a lot of money on software and not officially registering it. But, maybe that’s just me. :^)

I, too, just received my FCS3 software from an e-bay retailer, and it installed fine. However, when I opened the program for the first time and got the registration panel, I filled out the info and clicked ‘Send’ and got an error message. So, I went to Apple’s site and registered the software there (with the requisite serial number and packaging number). I did get a “Thank You” panel, indicating that it MAY have registered, but a message also said I would receive an e-mail from Apple to confirm registration. I didn’t get the confirmation e-mail. So, I’m wondering if Apple simply don’t send these confirmation e-mails anymore (since the product is EOL). Or, if the product simply would not register because it’s a copy that’s already been registered (or is otherwise bootleg).
I inquired with the vendor and he says that Apple no longer registers this software because it’s EOL. This seems a bit odd, to me. Wouldn’t Apple keep any serial numbers of unsold copies live for registration purposes? I paid $1197.00 US for the software. I was willing to do so because I use it for business; obviously, I want a legal/legit copy. (I’m sure I could’ve found a bootleg/illegal copy for a whole lot cheaper if I was willing to go that route!)
How is your software working? Any problem registering it with Apple?
Anyways, just saw your post and am wondering if we purchased from the same online vendor…
I’d love to hear about your experience to compare with mine, and perhaps determine if I (and you, too), in fact, got ripped off.

Does the RS-60e3 allow automatic timelapse, or is it just for remote triggering of the shutter? I have a Canon T3i/600D, and I purchased on Amazon the Aputure Timer Remote Cord for, I believe, about $20. I’ve tested it (though, just a quick test) and it seems like a fantastic little rig. There are plenty of reviews online. You may want to check it out.

Thank you, Shane. I currently use iDVD to make DVDs, and I do this by simply dragging the .mov file into iDVD, and I then use the “Professional” setting (within iDVD) whenever possible.
I’ve never used Compressor. Does Compressor render an mpeg-2 file that will give a higher quality DVD (i.e. higher quality than using the iDVD method I currently use)???

Oh! I’d read somewhere about a Pro version of After Effects. Is there a Pro version in any other of the Suites? (CS3, CS5, CS6).
