how do i set bitrate in sony vegas?

ok, this worked well. This is much better now. Now my doubt is what will happen when i add these rendered videos back to my project and as part of final project will i get high def videos? I would like to have my final project to use mkv and encode them in H.264 with 1080 resolution. Is it possible? I dont see Vegas having mkv as container nor H.264 as codec. Where can i install them?

Hi Mike, its Video for Windows (*.avi). I thought this was just a container. I guess iam wrong?

oh btw,my final project is to burn it in dvd or some hard disk. I wanted 1080 HD video as final if possible. I just hope its not bigger than 12gb? my video run time will be 1hr

hi steve, iam not able to find a way to set 5000kbits/per sec. Right now its encoding at enormous 441936kbps. Iam using the sony YUV codec. the site you mentioned recommends H.264. Where do i download H.264 codec for sony vegas? I was able to set frame rate 30 fps. Iam leaving the audio codec as uncompressed. For AAC support in sony vegas can i install this https://www.codecpackguide.com/klmcodec.htm ?

Hi Rob, all iam doing is pressing render as… and selecting
HD 720-50p, using Sony YUV codec. OpenDML compatible.
Audio: 48,000 Hz, 16 Bit, Stereo, PCM
Video: 50 fps, 1280×720 Progressive, YUV
Pixel Aspect Ratio: 1.000Am i wrong?

Thanks a lot guys! It helped a lot! I think i will go with canon VIXIA HF M300. I plan to buy https://www.buy.com/prod/kingston-32gb-flash-memory-sdhc-class-4-flash-card/q/loc/101/208403533.html as the SDHC card. Will that be good enough? The canon site says, Panasonic, Sandisk as the recommended vendors for the SDHC card, but iam going with Kingston…will that be ok?

what if i dont have an firewire jack on my desktop? I dont think my old camcorder has an firewire port either!

Iam trying to use it for basic videography (some documentaries and some outdoor activities) like shoot wild animals in jungle. In my recent outing, i had to shoot elephants from 300m distance and i struggled with bad zooming of my camera. Thats why iam looking for better zoom. I know tripod is a must, but on occasion iam of the opinion that Optical Image Stablilizer would help a bit? right? DSLR with video i thought was not a good bet! I was told to avoid hybrid cameras…..
