Bryan,
i always avoid MP3 because of the compression. I have tried a Wave and a AIFF. they both seems to do the same thing. randomly cutting out at different times. One other thing. when i got the music it was very loud so i turned down the levels in after effects.I also found that when the cymbal crashs in the song produce static some times…. but according to the editors there is no static in the audio track… BTW.. this file came from a mac and I’m on a PC

Kevin,
I have tried working with the clients, and teaching them how to export out of FCP but they dont understand why their files don’t work. i even when so far as to write up a HOW-TO.Normally I tell my clients to kick out animation codec files. but some times i just get stuck working with what i get…
i did find that if i import the DVCpro hd into a avid and export the clips out as a dnx145 i can work with those files.. but i would really like to find a way to work with these clips on a pc without having to convert them to some other codec… to bad apple doesnt watch these forums…. if they do… APPLE please make the DVCpro codec for PC so i dont have to convert my clips.

Normally I find a mac, with FCP and use compressor to convert the footage to a DNxHD 145 and then move that onto my PC. but sense my Mac died, I haven’t reinstalled FCP… AKA i cant convert the footage any more.

I have had two of those long lacie drives blow up… but the single shorter ones seem to last forever. I have one at home that is 8 years old and still works.

ok… here is what i do when im under a deadline and i just want to go home and drink a few beers. go to the Secret menu System and set the purge to the just a few frames shy of the failed frame.
if you have motion blur on and or some effect that takes a large ammount of ram, it can cause issues from what i have found.
so i just set my purge every _X#_ of frames to like 15… some times this can get you out of a jam… i would also make sure cap locks is on when your render and turn on Task manager… task manager will give you a clue if something else is causing the issue… Windows updates get me every time… also on my old pc if i turn off multi processor it runs a lot better… i dont know why, it just does..i hope that helps some. please note that using this secret menu can be a little dangerous… that second check box is trouble. stay away from it. that is why it is a secert menu.Ty

Thank you so much for that response. Basically after talking with our IT guy for a while and explaining what we needed we kind of ended up at the same place. Our New Boxx systems have trucked Networks and so does our Render farm. The graphics department here will be on it own switch. So we would getting 1 gb throughput. I
