I could be wrong, but I think it is only the mic in that provides phantom power. Might wanna check on that first though. I run mine through my SD 442 and out to that as a backup, so I haven’t used the +48 feature.

April 18, 2008 at 7:20 pm in reply to: Compact Flash Recorder to pair with a Sound Devices 302 MixerI use an M-audio Microtrack II for backup recording. I always run it if I ever need to save my butt. I was on the verge of getting a 744T, but just couldn’t justify it for what I do, which is generally sit down interviews and the like. I do a bit of drama, but it’s always on some HD video camera, not film, so that’s not really an issue. And it’s just a backup, so I figure that at least they have it if something goes wrong. Post can sync it manually if production doesn’t want to take the time to slate. A pain, yes, but some audio is better than no audio. Also, great quality. No complaints here.

Yeah, that’s basically the same thing. I like those. But what’s with the “Products marked with *** dont exist in desired quantity in our stock. You can buy them anyway and check the quantity we have in stock for immediate deliver in the checkout process.” They are marked with the “***”. And that’s the most use of symbols that aren’t substitutes for curse words I’ve ever used. Pretty cool.

If you have a Two Men & a Truck in town, I would try them. They have some of the best furni pads out there. They are black on one side and white on the other, so they can even double for fill if necessary in a small, hot area. Very thick and usually only $15-$20 and you can pick them up right at their store.

“and with the new firmware you don’t even have to deal with the P2 data or convert it to Quicktime files before editing in FCP”
This is the problem I’m having with the FS-100, and I’m sure it has something to do with me not completely following simple instructions, but how do you make the QT files individualized instead of one long stream? I’m positive it has something to do with the reel settings, but I can’t quite put my finger on it.

Even if that did isolate the problem, it would look like crap. We’ll try that, but even still it won’t look like it’s supposed to.

There are many filters on the clips. Color correction, keys, etc. We did not see this before today, nor incidentally before 5.1.3. And the custom sequence is set with the compression at 720p60 and 960×720 pixel size. But with all the technical jargon aside, why would it look correct in Preview, which is a preview of what the render will look like, but render out completely different? And what I mean by render out differently is that it makes the footage that we tweaked look like someone took a dump on it. Maybe we’re overthinking it.
Thanks again,

No, nothing was nested. However, we did try to nest and got the same results. The issue we’re having is resulting from applying a lumenance key to matte out a background. We’re replacing a white, overcast sky with a nice blue sky with a stadium light in the background. So we have a few layers, but it even does that with one layer, so I don’t think that’s the issue. Also, this is 720p24 and we tried some stuff in SD in a different timeline and it worked fine. The codec is DVCPRO HD. It’s a custom sequence, not a preset. We’re in version 5.1.3 (as of today when this problem was discovered). Perhaps that could be the problem? Possibly some unforseen bug they fixed that messed that up? I don’t know…just thinking out loud.
Thanks for your help,
Tyler
