I was playing around in the demo for it, and a twelve second clip that I rendered in Compressor and Episode rendered twice as fast as it did in Compressor. Though, I couldn’t get the watermark to work for some reason. It would be very nice to have, what with the H.264 files I need done for this project, but I don’t know if I’ll have any other projects like this, so I don’t know if it’s worth $849, since it doesn’t seem to support 10bit uncompressed or ProRes. But thank you for the suggestion; I’ll keep it in mind.
The 1.8mbps files I’m outputting now are working fine, but it’s still weird that it’s doing what it’s doing.

Sorry for the double post, but I forgot to add that I need to have it be a Quicktime movie, and that’s another reason I can’t use the DVDSP method.
-
It looks like that method that’s in the manual is only for the DVDSP method of compression. I can’t seem to alter frame size or change audio settings.
-
I’m using the latest version of Compressor. I’m looking in the Video Settings under the Encoder tab in the Inspector window.
-
Well, I have only two options for data rate: “Automatic” and “Restrict to”, for which you can type a numerical value. No sliders anywhere.
-
I don’t really know, there doesn’t seem to be anything regarding variable or constant in Compressor, only a restriction. And I think it’s logical to assume that means “Don’t go above x amount.”
As for frame size, I’m working from a RED proxy that was originally 1024×512 (the medium one), and I needed to make it smaller for the web, so I made it 720×360 in order to keep the same 2:1 ratio.
-
I’m running comparisons in Quicktime and Compressor now. If I set the “Restrict data rate” in Compressor to 1500kbps, the Quicktime file I get is actually around 3mbps. If I set it in Compressor to 750kbps, The Quicktime file I get is 2.3mbps. By setting it in Compressor to a meager 100kbps the Quicktime comes out right around 1500kbps, but it looks really awful. I can get it pretty close to what I want by setting Compressor to 300kbps, and the Quicktime comes out at around 1800kbps, which I may be able to get away with, but I’d still like to know what exactly is happening.
Any ideas?

Chris,
I’m using an AJA Kona 3 interface. I’ve tried powering my mac down and unplugging wires from computer to the Kona.
What I have tried just recently which is VERY VERY ODD, is that in my Sequence Settings, I went and changed my depth and rate from 24 bit to 16 and from 48khz to 32. Rendered my audio in the sequence. Performed the Edit to Tape, it worked. I then went and changed those 2 settings back to my original, performed edit to tape and now it works. Is this a Final Cut issue or could it be an AJA Kona issue?
-
I’ve just noticed something that may be a bit off. The easy setup I’m using in Final Cut is “AJA Kona 3- 1080psf 23.98 DL 10 bit Uncompressed RGB.” Both Sequence and Capture preset are listed as “1080psf 23.98 10 bit RGB” but the Playback output only says “1080psf 23.98 10 bit.” It doesn’t say anything about RGB. I’ve looked at the pull-down list in A/V settings, but there’s nothing that says exactly “1080psf 23.98 10 bit RGB” for Playback Output. Is there supposed to be one, or am I already using the right thing? If it turns out to be this, I’m going to feel like a damned fool….

[Jeremy Newmark] “If it’s updating the image and displaying it properly on the deck monitor when playback is stopped and then goes fuzzy and green when you try to playback, then it sounds like your FCP playback settings are not the same as your Kona 3 settings. Make sure that your output playback settings in FCP exactly match your Kona 3. “
Yes, the settings match.
Also, to Gary: I do have the image playing on my monitor, but I don’t think I can close the log and capture window (where the video is also playing) on my desktop without stopping the capture.
