Hi Noah,

They are zero crossover errors from two dissimilar sections of audio bumping up against each other. I tried the Control S suggestion. That worked in one situation but caused 2 clicks in the other.

I have seen USB to stereo unbalanced analog audio, but really your best bet would be to get a mic with an XLR connector.

What do you want this mic to do?

Hello Jeff,

Some of what you’re asking is above my pay grade. I’d ask TASCAM about the ex-FAT and FAT 32.

I’m guessing you already checked and yours was on that list, but If your cards are not on the officially sanctioned TASCAM list, then they MAY work or they MAY SOMETIMES WORK, or they MAY NOT WORK. 🙂

There have also been problems with counterfeit cards. If you got a really great price on yours……that’s a sign they may be counterfeit.

That you can reproduce the problem is good actually. I hear you about the paranoia. Get those files somewhere else below your paranoia threshold and reformat the card each way to see if you can reproduce the problem. And, if you don’t mind, let us all know what you find.

There are a number of systems on the market that use an iPad as a wireless mixer for the system.

Your sound person could sit in a pew with an iPad and mix the house sound.

So you have tried multiple different I/O boxes and they have all eventually burned out?

Which Mac do you have? I wonder if there’s something wrong with its FW port.

I had a CD duplicator with FW interface that burned out teh FW ports on my Mac and itself. It was a poor design.

I have other FW devices that have been great, no problems.

Some apparently do not like to be hot swapped.

Jeff,

Fo the best results, you really need to manually operate the boom (and input level) for more than one person. In fact, when I do location audio for single person interviews using a static boom, I frequently ride gain through the entire interview. A few folks have relatively constant speaking levels, but many begin hot and get soft as they continue to speak (and run out of air).

Once I figure out their patterns, I adjust. I know, for example, that I need to turn down slightly for the first few words and then slowly increase the gain. I can do this ONLY if the ambient noise is low enough not to be heard as I turn the mic up. The result is a much more finished track.

Attempting to mic three with one locked down boom is bound to cause problems because no two people speak at the same level. Yes, you can (should) fix that in post, but will you?
