Hello Carole and welcome to the Cow Audio Forum.

If it’s a final product, I’d peak higher, compress, limit and maybe EQ.

If you’re sending voice track to someone for inclusion in a project, peaking at -3dB is fine.

    John,

    B&H sells a replacement for $229.

OTOH, I had a class here a few years ago and someone brought a PD150. I’m not sure it’s the same mic, but it might be. Relative to a Sennheiser MKH 416, the Sony mic sounded broken.

No big surprise given the cost differential, but it was fun letting them hear the difference.

    Regards,

    Ty

Hello John and welcome to the Cow Audio Forum.

Do you have a model number for the mic? Is it stereo or mono?

Quicktime Pro has some very neat features. You need to pay the $29 to unlock the Pro version, but you can manipulate the audio and video. I’m not certain how that will play out for you, because I’m not entirely sure how the LtRt tracks will appear in Quicktime. DO let us know.

Hello Daniel and welcome to the Cow Audio Forum.

Yes, that’s the idea. It’s stereo unless you have the decoder to unfold it.

About FCP. I’d take that to the FCP unless someone else chips in here. Don’t see why not but I haven’t done one yet.

    Cheers Ben,

$2000 is not a lot to spend on sound.

As a starter kit, I’d like you to have a Sound Devices 302, a Sanken CS-3e, Sony MDR7506 headphones, mixer to camera snake with breakaway cable, boom, suspension mount and wind protection.

The thing about sound gear is, you really can’t afford to buy too cheap. It will bite you in the butt every time.

    Ty Ford

Hello Benjamin and welcome to the Cow Audio Forum.

Please elaborate. Let’s see if we can peel this onion.

    What budget?
    What camera format?

Exterior dialog can be boomed or recorded with wireless lavs.
Any time you get more than two sources, you need to make a call.
Do I boom this? Do I record each wireless separately to an external recorder?

Your textured sounds will require sfx libraries, mic, mixer and maybe a recorder.

May 18, 2009 at 6:01 pm in reply to: Question on Running from Board into Camera

    Hello Erik,

Hard to diagnose at a distance, but I’d try to listen to the console to the audio being sent you (or your camera). If the buzz is coming from the console, you have to look there first.

Could be a half million things. From nothing, as in the faders are higher than they would be because no one is talking into the mics, to interference from lights, to bad grounding elsewhere.

I’d try to find the person running the console to see if he/she can fix the feed you’re getting.

    Regards,

    Ty Ford

    Hello Brian,

The same rules that apply to the picture apply to sound.

If where you’re going is a hostile environment and the job is mission critical, you need backup.

About consumables; Check to see if they have what you want when you get there,

Plastic connectors; none that I know of, plus the metal may be part of the shielding.

IEP don’t provide the same listening experience as good headphones (so far as I know).
