I don’t know that particular deck but I do know that lots of people have mentioned frame accuracy problems when laying to tape with FCP.

One way to avoid waiting through the whole layback is to record elsewhere the characters output from the VTR when you make the edit – you can then check that it starts on a round number.

VizRT is used extensively in the UK. I think Chyron have taken back a lot of the Deko ground in the US.

Pixel Power make Clarity that is used for a lot of network graphics (end credit promotions, evening run-downs etc) generated in real time from excel spreadsheets.

    Thanks for that

  • OK – this plug in only works on a stereo programme track. Won’t work on mono track or 5.1 track.

Found out because I was searching for the fill left/right effect – again stereo only.

  • I couldn’t get it to install properly. I put it in the system VST folder and the PPro VST folder.

Shows up fine in Vegas, but not in PPro (even though it shows as loading as PPro loads). Tried removing from PPro VST folder, still no joy.

Is there anything further I should be doing to install VST plug-ins?

(BTW am trying to use virtual routing on a virtual version of WinXP – on a MacBookPro)

  • Thanks very much for that. Shows that sidechaining is possible at least!

No handle on compression ratio – so presumably is infinity–>1 ?

I *think* the way to do this is as follows…

Select your source clips (you may wish to duplicate them first to keep the originals intact) and select clip menu | audio options | source channel assignment.
Assuming they were stereo when captured, then select ‘mono as stereo’
They will now edit into 2 x stereo programme tracks. The first track will be A1 routed to L&R, the second track will be A2 routed to L&R and can be edited seperately (if ‘unlinked’ by right clicking and selecting ‘unlink’).

But then I don’t use PP and there are likely to be many other ways of skinning this rabbit

Good practice to shoot the off-speed material on separate tapes from the 25fps material.

Frame rate of recording is recorded in user bits.

    I recently got a per-tape quote of £120-240 for 30min HD varicam @ 60fps -> 72 min SD Digi @ 25fps via Panasonic Frame Rate Convertor.

I haven’t tried capture via Kona or firewire. I understand there are issues getting FCP to control a 60Hz deck in a PAL project, also that the firewire option doesn’t use the CineGamma curves that the Varicam Deck applies on Baseband output (i.e. you need to do your own colour correction to get the VariCam look).

The FCP software FRC may, or may not, work – I’ve read differing opinions on this.

It is possible, I believe, to get the Sony HD Cameras to record at 50fps then playback at 25fps.

    HTH
