I am experiencing the same problem with my LH(pcix). Blacks frames at the out point, on an insert edit. Everything is set properly, I’ve done it a thousand times with my io….ended up re-mastering entire show to work around.
Doing it in…
10 bit uncompressed NTSC to a uvw 1800
also in 8 bit 1080i downconverting to a digibeta anamorphic -
Thanks,
The sequences play back fine at full quality in the FCP main interface Canvas/viewer.
It is a fully rendered sequence from a simple ab roll edit. 1 track.
The problem is when I go to edit to tape.
I am clearing the raid and exporting a single video file to the clean raid to see if that works. Should know in xxx hours.

Thanks again…
So, if I have an io already, the only reason to get the LH is access to the HD camera/deck output of HDV originals, and the lower price?
If I want to maintain future Dual Link potential, and hope that the upconvert stands the test, I should keep my io and get the Kona2?
Is there a quality issue when comparing the final master output of HDV captured via firewire and rendered through the internal FCP process into the best quality 1080i or 1080p codec, vs the HD Analog captured output of the camera to same?

Thanks Walter,
Terranex seems to be the way to go.
If my only reason to buy the Kona2 over the LH is the upconvert, it sounds like I should buy the LH, and recommend to my documentary clients that all SD material be conformed as SD 10Bit uncumpressed, sent out for a Terranex conversion, and then reinserted into the HD show.
It seems from all I’ve read on the forum that the Kona2 upconvert is clearly not as good and may be perhaps unacceptable to a highly critical QC by a broadcaster?
Would a render of the upconvert in software (and which software is best to use?) compare favourably to the Kona2 real-time upconvert? I don’t mind hitting render overnight and would like to offer a “cheap” solution.

NOTE TO SELF:
ALWAYS RUN FCP ONCE FIRST BEFORE INSTALLING IO. IF I FORGET, I HAVE TO DO AN UNINSTALL OF IO, RUN FCP, INSTALL IO.
-
Thanks, tried your steps, didn’t work.
That was 2nd time around for a complete install from scratch,
The io is there and the system sees it. It is FCP that can’t find it.
I have tried it at every increment of every revision of the software, os, and quicktime, and it has not worked at any step in the process.
Removed my only PCI card (Firewire) and still the same problem.
Is there a recommended configuration from AJA? There are three Quicktimes in play here – 7.0, 7.01, 7.02. There are three OS revisions in play here – 10.4, 10.4.1, and 10.4.2. There are two revisions of FCP 5.01, 5.02.
I do like the FCP/AJA, but this is my second 24 hour +, software hardware nightmare in just over a month.
Must sleep a little now…
Plese help

Although I have used FCP/AJA on the last few projects to great satisfaction, I still have and use my M100i(x3) and hope to that this great software company can embrace M100 and produce something fantastic for those of us who have been using M100 and continue to use it.
Under the right circumstances I would put money into M100 products.
I have not purchased M100HD because I feel it is overpriced and M100 has fallen out of the mainstream.
I think it is important for BorisFX to embrace the P6000 and 844x clientele for the line to survive and flourish. (get as many people re-registered as you can, and quickly)
I probably would have bought an 844x if it was on OSX/Mac, and from what I have heard it is an amazing piece of hardware.
Renewed support for p6000/844x/Dare I say ICE – please!!
Why not allow FCP to “see” the M100 Hardware? (FCP is the wave right now, and is here to stay).
OMF support PLEASE!
Layers with advanced masking/effects/geometrics, great(est) colour correction, advanced motion effects , elegant HDV – Please!
Automatic Duck support to go to and from the majors with programs and bins, por favor!! You have to have interaction with the main platforms.

…besides digitizing the whole show from the AJA io into my Media 100 to make it “black safe”… LOL sort of…

Hi,
Thanks for the suggestion. What I require is that the blacks be clipped at 7.5. If I add setup to the whole show the blacks will grey. The people at AJA swiftly responded to this in their tech department:
> In regards to black levels: The Io does not clip
> super black video levels;
> however it does rescale the luminance on capture and
> playback.
>
> In the case of betacam, 7.5 IRE is scaled to 0 IRE
> on capture; scaled back
> to 7.5 IRE on playback. In other words: Black in FCP
> is 0 IRE; Black with
> betacam is 7.5 IRE – again the Io handles the
> scaling but does not clip the
> super black.
>I do understand the technical explanation given by Rudy, however I believe there must be a method, or one should be developed to ensure no illegal black levels. If there is no such thing as below zero in FCP, and the AJAio scales all zero blacks to 7.5, then how can a “superblack” exist, and how can I end up with analog video values below 7.5. Based on this information it should not be possible.
They suggested trying the broadcast safe filter which, unfortunately does not have any effect on the blacks (FCP4.5).
Is there another suggestion for not allowing black levels below 7.5?
I can go in and tweak each shot, but the point is that they have noisy greys, that we want to have disappear into black. Making the shot legal by raising the blacks, ruins the aesthetic. Clipping the blacks at 7.5 is the desirable option here.
Thanks, hopefully there might be another suggestion.
