    Richard,

Right click on the clip and choose “open in timeline”.

    See what that does.

Yes only some Alexa clips that were captured with the proper settings will work, however, I think the OP issue was that the color corrections didn’t do anything to the clip. Not that the log C viewing didn’t work.

    Sean,

Could you post a small portion of a frame in full res showing the banding issues. Maybe one of us could figure out some solutions.

Works on my end too on the Alexa footage samples I have.

Here is my guess at what might have happened. Your playhead was on clip A and thus showing in the viewer, but you had clip B selected. Therefore you were making changes to clip B, while viewing clip A.

    Just a while guess. 😉

July 19, 2013 at 4:02 am in reply to: Interesting file management problem encountered

Renders are thousands of little files, something that is enough to bring a HD to its knees. Plus as far as I understand it each render file is unique to FCP would need to be renamed and stored in the database when copying (I could be wrong on that). Hence it could take a long time.

The other possibility is that some of your render files were corrupted, which seems to be an often reported thing here on the cow. If that is the case FCPX might have a hard time reading the render file and obviously have a hard time copying them.

As a side note, at my shop we always turn off background rendering unless we have a heavy composite that we want to preview. Since I started using the latest iMac in February, I have never had to render in FCPX.

FCPX is going to automatically see the span and assemble those into one clip. I believe (could be wrong because I don’t have a P2) that the single clip can be opened in timeline and the individual clips are inside. So the spanning might not be a problem at all.

However, regarding capturing separately P2, Michael Garber showed how to do this at the beginning of his Moviola webinar a few weeks back.

    https://moviola.com/webinars/news-editing-in-final-cut-pro-x/

(Michael frequents the cow so hopefully he can chime in. If not that webinar is excellent. Michael know FCPX inside and out and has great tips for any editor. I would spend the few dollars and get it.)

FCPX should have no problem with an 8 hour timeline. FCPX will easily handle a timeline of several days. 😉

  • I have noticed this also. If the audio is rolling before the video, it will often make a complex clip (i.e. synchronized clip) at 720p.

However, once the clip is in a sequence (project or compound clip) all the resolution in the clip is used. But what is lost is the ability to have the spacial conform settings be changed. It will always be on “fit”. A bug or a result of a complex clip I believe. Compound Clips don’t have the issue. . Better to put your synced clip in a compound clip, and break it apart inside there. Of course you have to do that at the get go.

I love, love, love CoreMelt Lock & Load and Slice X. But frankly I’ve had identical problems as you have had when I them more that on a handful of clips on a project.

Try disabling the FXPlugins themselves (/library/Plug-Ins/FXPlug) and see if you can export.

June 25, 2013 at 4:19 am in reply to: FCPX acting up. Seriously.

Sounds like a hardware problem with one of the following: RAM, Logic Board, GPU, other PCI card. To rule those out I would install your OS on a new partition, boot from it and see if the problems persist.

With everything that could go wrong it is amazing that computers work at all. To boggle your mind, take a look at this while your OS is installing on that partition:

With that said I’m guessing it is your RAM or GPU.

June 23, 2013 at 11:05 pm in reply to: Multiple audio tracking sync’ing with FCPX

BTW. If you are wondering how to reproduce this problem. Just follow the procedure here:

    https://help.apple.com/finalcutpro/mac/10.0.6/#verc1fabc30

In all the tests I have done, one video clip and 2 audio clips will sync correctly, but the resulting clip will have the wrong audio configuration and you won’t be able to access both audio clips independently.
