The Matrox drivers are definitely not a viable option at the moment. I have a MXO2 Mini and while it works, sorta, and can feed a HDMI Monitor as well as a CRT, it is defiantly beta and wouldn’t be usable with a client. However, I’ve heard much better reports from the Blackmagic and AJA broadcast drivers. But everything is still in beta, both FCP X broadcast monitoring as well as the drivers. BTW, you can pick up an Intensity Pro for about $200.

First, I tell the fellow who gave your the voice over that it has that it has problems. They should offer to redo it. A simple $15 popper stopper will take care of it.

There are some things you can do in post. You probably can’t completely eliminate it, but it depends how bad it is.

The first thing I would try is an the filter “Enveloper” on your VO. This will lesson loud “p” attack with a setting like this: Notice the beginning of the sound will have a slow ramp up rather than a hard attack. Try a desser also.

You could try to do this manually with some audio keyframes at the sample level.

I feel you pain. However, I don’t believe there is anyway to recover from Render Files.

I would give Apple a call and see if there are any secretes that they know of.

You don’t have to use SoundTrack Pro, you just need to isolate the frequencies of the stomach rumble. STP has a really cool spectral view that lets you view frequencies in sound easily. However, you can find out what is happening with your rumble by using the analysis in Channel EQ filter. LIke this:

In this case above you can see that between say 60hz and 520hz there is a loud rumble (not stomach but a machine) that could be lowered with a EQ filter.

With that said I am more than happy to help you with this so you don’t have to be burdened by it. The difficult thing is that it might not be possible to completely eliminate the grumble, but just minimize it.

This should be doable. Do you have Soundtrack Pro? If so you can use the spectral view of that portion of the audio and it will let you know which frequencies to target. Or you can try the Channel EQ and choose Analyze to see what is happening. Hopefully It should be much lower than what we need to understand normal speech, which is about 1.5-2K.

Once you find the frequency of the stomach rumble, do you best to reduce those with an EQ Filter.

If you want, post that portion of the audio here on the Cow and I’ll figure out how to fix it for you.

Not only a great report, but your supervisor has some kind of magic box that can pull out any converter you need the moment you need it!

BTW. I heard about that adapter and that were some troubles with the Apple version. So here is a little article about it:

MPEG Streamclip requires the Quicktime MPEG 2 component to be installed. There is a little helper script that comes in the latest MPEG Streamclip disk image to help you out. Otherwise find it an put it here on your startup drive.
