Yes no doubt, you can get into a droid cheaper so when you factor in cost I certainly see that.
When I look at my crew on Hockey for example, everybody making our big union money and can buy what
they want. The Iphone is all over the crew. (and any other sports crew I’m on)I guess I have been hanging around with too many people with too many means that it colored my view : )

I think it will be around for a while.
X reminds me of the Iphone.
When the Iphone first came out it wasn’t the only smart phone on the market. I remember people who loved their blackberries cracking on the Iphone. Saying the Iphone couldn’t do this or that.
It didn’t matter though, the Iphone just swept other phones aside.
People just liked how the Iphone worked and they didn’t give a darn what somebody thought about their Blackberry. They wanted what they wanted.
Even with all the bad press X got, I know more people in my town who have bought X than any other new NLE.
It’s ahead on head count. (6 individuals and one post house)
The folks I talked to who bought it all say the same thing. They just like it. Even the one’s that didn’t at first have come around to it.
Yes, there are other smart phones out there besides the Iphone, but I’m almost surprised when I see someone pull one out.

That’s a good move for your University at this point because more places that might hire your students
have Avid.What will be interesting to me are students that come to your University in the future who have already learned X at home and never used Avid.
It will be a change for them and I would love to know how they will react. While I think they should learn both, my guess is that many will cut their own stuff on their X at home.
It’s so different now, than when I was in school (83-87) You had no access to editing and all you knew was what the college taught you. We were clean slates.
It won’t ever be that way again.
Say some kid startes cutting with X and motion in the 8th grade and comes to you with 5 years of experience with a product.
I’m just thinking out loud about how the world has changed.
A little off topic but how much does BYU cost a semester these days?

Yes it helps very much in speed.
I have made this point here before. Since the audio is linked to the video by default you are dealing with fewer items in the timeline.
Same information down there, just fewer items.
Look at it this way, say I’m in a grocery store and they hand me 6 bags or 2 bags. Same items I bought just
in two bags instead of 6. I can move faster with 2 instead of 6. It seems common sense to me if I have things consolidated it would speed things up.Like having my tools spread out all over my garage or in one tool box.
I don’t need timecode for syncing multi-camera because it syncs through sound waves. I don’t have to waste time in the field doing that.
I can preview effects and looks in real time before I use them.

Isn’t that what place holders and gaps are for?
I feel totally free to just toss stuff down on that line because it’s so easy to slide stuff around.
I agree with him about students though, I would teach them Avid and let them pick up X at home. Then they would know both ways.

Herb, didn’t X make it’s own room by simply making the timeline so much more different than the other NLEs?
It seems they set themselves apart by doing that. Avid or PPr for the old school timeline and X if you like this new way.

“I really think this is the key.
I recently went over to a friend’s house to show him and his son some short cuts for X on their new 27inch imac.
I could tell right off the bat that X was very buggy on their system with lion. I have been working on X since it came out on my 8 core mac pro with SL and have not really had any crashes since the first and second updates.
The only annoying problem I have is the skimmer goes away after a while. My work around is to hit the project folder icon to open the projects and then reopen the project that I’m working on.
That works every time (but a pain).
For folks that don’t like the skimmer they might not catch this and I think it leads to save problems if that skimmer stops working. It’s kind of a tipoff.
I turned off background rendering on their lion right off the bat and explained to them why, but even having that off I saw a couple of beach balls.
X runs crappy on Lion. I saw that first hand. Runs smoother on SL and I think that has a lot to do with why so many people have different views on the performance of the program.
If I had only seen this thing run on Lion I might have tossed it in the the trash myself.
The funny thing is I have not switched to lion under protest of the new look.
I know it sounds petty but I HATE the new grayed out folders.I hated when they did it in itunes and now they have gone even farther with it.
The colors help me find the icons faster at a glance.
I refuse to use lion until they give me an option to change the icons and now, until it runs X better.

I agree big time with this.
If they had the skill and knowledge that we do they wouldn’t need us.
They have an idea in their heads and they want us to make it happen.
When we do that they are happy. However we get there.
