  • Doh! My fault. I just opened it with preview. Now I see the layers.

I’l try my hand at the key settings. In general I’d say that everything from the ankles up looks keyable. You may have to roto the shields back in. I’m guessing that you’ll need to mask out the floor but take a copy of the masked area and use it to put the shadows back on to the background layer.

Also there are matte edge settings right in Keylight you might not need the extra matte choker.

  • I tried the download twice and it only had these two files (Warriors Bow 01 w shadow001.mov and WARRIORS KEYED.psd)

  • If all else fails you could roto. Lets look at the original if you have sometime to post it. Just need a still frame.

Does the background need to be 3D? If its a 2D layer the camera move will not effect it.

Short answer: Blender. You can’t beat the price. https://www.blender.org/cms/Home.2.0.html

Long answer: Think about not just what you need for now, but what type of work you hope to be doing later. The investment isn’t so much the money as it is the time. C4D, Lightwave, Maya, 3D Max, Blender will all work but if you plan on working with someone that just has to have a Maya artist then it might be what you want to spend your time learning.

Also, I’m not sure what your looking to do with 3d but Shake is available as a demo. You might try it out and see if that’s what you need.

It is more a matter of what your foreground element (keyed subject) is. If it’s a guy in a frog suit you’ll want to use blue, if it’s a girl in tight blue jeans you’ll want to get me in on the shoot, well no, you’ll want to use green though. Aside from the foreground element’s color it’s mostly what your comfortable with. I believe that in video the green signal is a larger part of the whole and thus the school of thought that green is better, but you can key with a red background if you wanted. Luma mattes also work better for somethings.

  • [Lstr8or1] “1. Where do you see areas of opportunity for students entering the fields of animation, broadcast graphics, special effects and gaming?”

    Making coffee and running errands.

[Lstr8or1] “2.What are the most important skill-sets an artist must have to be hired in your line of work?”

    Staying awake.

[Lstr8or1] “3. Is it important to understand particular software or is it important to understand the process regardless of which software you use?”

    There’s a process?

[Lstr8or1] “How has this played out in your career personally?”

I wouldn’t call it a career so much as a mistake.

[Lstr8or1] “4. What is an entry-level wage in your area of the industry? “

A little less than the receptionist.

The best advice is get a degree and get a job in educational so you get the summers off.

    ok try this
    1. Get to know people who are doing the kind of work your interested in.
    2. Be personable
    3. Both
    4. The wage (when you start) is not as important as being allowed to participate in a meaningful way.

  • I’m guessing that your getting a completed spot and not the original shots (there is a whole long sidebar about producers screwing up and not going back and facing the music but I won’t go in to it). If you can’t go back to the original key and change the bkg element color there, you might have luck with keying a second time but this time remove the red and put the green back in (if it was green).
