Thanks for your reply Tim, yes exactly XDCAM HD (low res proxies from Optical Disc instead of high res) and rough cutting with a laptop with the low res. proxies to supply timeline of base cut.

Vegas can do it, but my Producers have earlier versions of Prem. any ideas?

Thanks for the responses guys however I think you are missing the point, it isn’t that I online with ppro on a laptop – I work off of an adrenaline for that. It is more the fact that I can upload the proxies easily to field producers who with little editing training can take a log and turn it into a cut edl. Instead of working from a big bin and cutting away I can get them to do some cuts only base cutting and pump out an edl. They only have limited systems suitable for the proxy’s and their biggest concern in the past was ‘seeing’ a content cut – if I can upload a 60 min discs proxy’s at under 1 gig and they can pull them down and take log into a base cut edl I am shaving valuable time. It all works nicely IF they can cut with the proxy’s…

yep, what can I tell you, I have a fairly new HP pavilion dv 9700 HP 64×2 turion 3gig ram on vista home sp1 with a nvidia geforce 7150M , I copy off the clips .mxf and open a job in ppro and import the .mxf’s, they come in fine but on multi cam or general playback they are jerky and the audio drop out. the project is sony XDCAM HD/EX SP (1080i). even with the viewers in draft mode it jerks, I play the same clip on a similar desktop and no problem.
