The only major drawback I see to Sata when using internal drives within a G5 with a SATA PCI control card are the cheap connectors. They are easy to break pins on the drive itself or the plastic connector itself if the drives are jarred or move.
This occured to me on a G5 with three internal drives mounted onto a third party mounting system not endorsed by Apple. The allen screws got loose in transport and the drives ended stacking up against themselves which caused the SATA connectors to break.
However even with two of the drives down I was able to work with a two drive raid with no problems dealing with native dvcpro HD at 720P.

Steve if you are referring to the F900 then yes it is large and heavy for this type of shoot.
But if you were referring to the SDX-900 this camera would be no problem for a ride along.
The show “Cops” way back in the beginning used BVP-550 betacam sp rigs (BVP-50 camera with BVV-5 vtr) later switching to BVW-400 and 600 camcorders. The SDX is no heavier than a 600 and is close in size.
Another idea would be to install a lipstick camera in the squad car and record to a dsr-50 or dv clam shell.
The DVX-100A would be the most ideal for the inexperienced camera operator due to the ease of operation and small size.
Sound crews on “Cops” transmit back the boom or 2nd wireless lav feed back to the camera. The camera usually also has ch 1 reserved for camera mic in the event the camera operator and soundman are separated.
Years ago I did a ride along with LAPD and used a bvw-35 to record 4 tracks of audio (ch 1 camera mic, Ch 2 boom, Ch 3 wireless lav on cop, Ch 4 radio scanner). Today I would do it with a hard drive recorder.

First get a job as an assistant or intern to learn who to network with first.
Obtain training and valuable real life in the field production experience from those you get to work with. Possible jobs might include working at a camera rental house to learn the gear from the ground up.
Learn the art of lighting as this is essential to anyone considering becoming a photographer, or cinematographer. Get a job working as a grip with a gaffer on low budget films.
Networking and actual in the trenches field experience will be the key to your success throughout your career.

The reverse should be true if the camera was a switchable 16×9 and 4×3 CCD block.
In other words the 16×9 actually would have better resolution because it would use all the pixels available instead of center cropping for the 4×3 image.
However if you shot with a native 4×3 camera then that model would have better resolution compared to the switchable camera version.
Other factors that would effect keying would be the lighting, edge enhancement on the camera, color spill on the subject, distance from subject to chroma key backdrop or set.

Make it real simple.
Instruct them that all corrections needed to comply with established broadcast standards will be billed at $499.99 an hour.
$499.98 of that is to put up with the stupidy of the client thinking they could produce professional broadcast quality work and the remaining 1 penny to cover overhead.
All of a sudden they might start to figure out it would be cheaper to hire you in the first place to deliver “broadcast quality” material from the start.

Don’t forget someone will have to be responsible for xferring the material to a Hard drive. If this means overtime for that crew member after a long 14 hour day I expect most “budgetary challenged” producers will bitch and moan.
In which case the nearest available PA who last week was working at the slurpee counter at 7/11 will instantly be promoted to P2 dubbing expert.

Don’t expect any service or support from the legimate US service center or dealers.
You will get what you did not pay for when you need a helping hand from the USA service center and/or dealers.
Most likely you will have to ship the unit overseas for any type of service.
You might considering trying to find a “B” stock unit instead.

FCP Filters are only part of the equation. If the team hired to shoot the footage in the first place did not light the project “filmstyle” or put in effort into art direction, motivated lighting, etc etc no magically filter is going to turn the footage into a magically film look. At best the video can be transformed into “faux film” with all the flaws highlighted.
It only hides the crap it started out as originally.
In this case please apply the anti crappy video filter found in FCP’s hidden tool chest. It’s next to the experienced crew and editors wanted list.

What DVD authoring software are you using? Or are you using an external DVD recorder to create the DVD’s?
If you are using a software program such as IDVD you can archive the project elements as well as the project file.
Later you can burn another DVD or even modify the project file for revisions.
