    Hi guys,
I don’t know if this would be better suited in a different forum. But…..

We shot on Sony DigiBeta and someone noticed a quality difference when keying 4×3 or 16×9. 4×3 was noticeably better. Sony Broadcast in Sydney told us the camera has better resolution at 4×3. Now, I’m not a camera op, just an editor. But could someone confirm if this is true and explain to me why?

    Cheers,

The reverse should be true if the camera was a switchable 16×9 and 4×3 CCD block.

In other words the 16×9 actually would have better resolution because it would use all the pixels available instead of center cropping for the 4×3 image.

However if you shot with a native 4×3 camera then that model would have better resolution compared to the switchable camera version.

Other factors that would effect keying would be the lighting, edge enhancement on the camera, color spill on the subject, distance from subject to chroma key backdrop or set.

the camera is a native 16:9 CCD.

Do digiBeta compress at 50Mbps? Maybe it would be better at 4:3 because there is less area to compress.
