Some other major items which make the Leader 5750 more attractive include
1) capture mode of any display (ie wfm, vectorscope, audio, picture etc) and storage to a compact flash card. I use the feature alot for capturing actual waveform display, camera menus and/or video images which can be imported into photoshop for touch up etc. It a cheap way to get stills from an HD camera.
2)30 preset memory files which can be stored to the compact flash card. This is a major plus when dealing with multiple 5750’s (ie a rental environment where you want to recall your custom memory files to different 5750’s.) Honestly this feature is a major timesaver with the field and post production workflows I use.
3)Different color and intensity values settings for waveform,vectorscope,audio etc. displays.
4) Audio display can show embedded SDI audio which is returned from camera. In addition you can listen to any channel discretely via the headphone jack. Imagine the ability to monitor your multi channel audio return from the whatever source is routed to the A or B SDI inputs. The only change I would request is the headphone volume needs to be louder.
5)Multi mode in which you can have multiple displays on the screen side by side or top and bottom. Example (waveform and vectorscope side by side, or WFM and audio, or WFM,audio, picture, status in this case all four are arranged top and bottom).
6)Autosensing of HD SDI or SD-SDI inputs.
7) Compact size and DC powered. Very sharp LCD display.
The Leader may be more expensive than the Hamlet but the price for a high quality professional piece of equipment is well reflected. I am saving up for the Leader as I see it as a piece of equipment I personally will be using for many years to come. In fact I am still using my Composite Leader 5872 WFM unit to this day in the field. My only regret on the 5872 is the fan is too loud compared to Textronix units.
Ok I could go on but I have to go to sleep now as I have a six camera shoot I am working on all this weekend.

I highly recommend contact PERA (Professional Equipment Rental Association) to get on their stolen equipment list.
Circulate your list to all the used equipment brokers also to get the word out.

FYI HD spacial resolution versus CRT monitor resolution are two different things.
Currently there is no CRT monitor that offers full spacial resolution of 1920×1080. The only solution for viewing high resolution is to use a LCD monitor such as Ecinema Cinema Display (sorry I forgot the model number) which is a color critical as well as high resolution monitor.
Consumer HD monitors are indeed down rezzed models which is similar to what current NTSC consumer display monitors do. For example in the field a color critical NTSC high res model may be offer 800 lines of resolution whereas a consumer monitor may be as low as 250-300 lines of resolution.
The point being the final end of the distribution chain ends up with the lowest resolution delivery image.
The term HD in the consumer or professional world can be quite misleading in terms of what exactly the vendor implies.

Hi Walter,
I did a side by side between the 17″ panasonic and Sony 20″ for use as a field production monitor. The Panasonic was unacceptable due to the overall image size and lower resolution when compared to the Sony 20″.

Another inexpensive software option to consider besides stagetools is a program called Still Life.
It is available for download and purchase at https://www.grantedsw.com
I used it for a program recently and had it mastered in under five minutes.
Great fluid moves etc.
You can’t beat it for the $25 purchase price.

If you want fluid progressive slo mo you should consider shooting on a Varicam.
For super slo mo frame rates above 60 fps you need to consider shooting on film as an option.

Bruce,
Even after the warranty expires the willingness of assistance from the manufacturer with temporary loaner equipment while the lens is being repaired becomes an issue with gray market equipment.
I have always received great support and loaners from Canon even after my warranty expired with products which were legimately purchased with the original USA warranty.
If one is willing to take a risk to save some money up front and has established relationships with independent repair facilities then the route you suggest may well be worth it for some.

The varicam only records in 720P not 1080. Unless you setup the 1200A to cross convert from 720 to 1080i this would be the only way to capture it as 1080i.
Did you rent the 1200A from a rental house? If so ask their engineering department for help regarding the proper menu setups for the 1200A.
