If it is just the boot drive no need for another Sata the IDE connector should be fine.
I just this method currently for booting off my G4 which has five drives in it.
Four striped as a raid, one boot drive in the 2nd optical slot.

Alot of first timers throw out the film out phrase without any idea of what is really involved budget wise or technically.
Start at the end and work backwards to determine if you can really afford this “pipe dream”.

The cost of the overnight fed ex is going to kill you.
In addition with the amount of time the camera will be away it is doubtful anyone out of town will keep the rental at a one day rental.
You would be best served by trying to find a local owner/operator for this job.

I believe you are expecting much more out of the system while “tasking out ” the system beyond what it is capable of doing in RT.
Instead of wasting more time trying to get the system to keep up with your expections modify your workflow to make the best out of what the system can do.
Time is money the more you waste with the wrong workflow the less time you have for creative decisions.
One last note turn off the audio waveforms if you don’t need them. The will put more “load” on the CPU.
You may also wish to consider purchasing a more power raid drive system internal or external to increase the RT functions. The speed of the CPU is only part of the formula in acheiving faster RT performance.

What you are seeing is most likely the inability for a cheap lower end camera to reproduce the full color spectrum in the real world under various lighting conditions. Our eyes are much more powerful than any video camera.
In addition depending on what display device you were using ie LCD or CRT monitor this could also be part of the color limiting display problem.
Your options are to color correct later and apply secondary color correction to the areas you wish to change.
