HDCAM records anamorphically 1080×1440 not full raster 1080×1920.
Similar to what dvcpro HD does by recording anamorphically at 720×960 instead of 720×1280.

The two modes are not similar and are meant for different applications.
The new filmlike gamma #3 does offer more highlight reproduction than number one and two.
If you require film rec than the Varicam is the camera to use if not then the HDX-900 may be suitable.
One major item I noticed is how clean the HDX-900 is in the dark areas compared to a Varicam “F” version which I found some quite noisy.
In any case the end user must first consider the post production workflow for either camera to decide what will work best for them both in the field and in post.

No deception by Sony just marketing hype to only mislead those who read into something which is not really there.
The specs cannot lie.

Does this mean the Dec 2006 release will be pushed back as a result?
Has the FBI been notified?
Dumb question but was the prototype camera not in a top security vault? If not then why not?

It is all listed on the specifications page which states the playback and recording format are HDCAM not HDCAM SR.
The paragraph you refer to is just more generic marketing hype.

4×3 center punched- extracting the 4×3 center portion from a 16×9 anamorphic image. Allow for generating a 4×3 image from the 16×9 anamorphic material which could be standard def or high def.
4×3 anamorphic squeezed- method to record a 16×9 anamorphic image into a 4×3 area. The result is the images are tall and skinned (ie squeezed and will be unsqueezed during post or via a monitor)
Upconverting SD to HD- the post production process of uprezzing standard definition image to high definition ie standard def 720×486 to High def 1080×1920. Process is more complicated when dealing with different frame rates ie 60i to 24P.
Up res – upsample or upconvert from a lower to higher quality codec, format or standard. ie uprez from standard def to HD, uprez from dv to 8 bit uncompressed codec.
Up converting any format is best done when the original material was progressive to start off with ie Standard def best done with progressive scan 4:2:2 720×486 material to High def 4:2:2 1080P, 720P or 1080i. Lesser quality when you start with interlace 4:1:1 and uprez to HD 4:2:2 progressive or HD interlace.

Not really especially if I only need a third output. The 900R does not cause three time as much just because it has more video outputs.
All of what I asked for is possible with a base station. I know that Panasonic did make a base station for the SDX-900 but I never heard or saw one for the Varicam?
Mr Merritt any word of a base station in the works for the HDX or is the telecast or evertz fiber system the only way to go.
Is there a multipin breakout on the HDX which has additional I/O’s?

No I don’t know anything about the GPS nor have I ever used it on my SDX 900.
You are the first to ever ask about that feature.
I suggest asking Jeff Merrit for a more detailed answer.
