I don’t know what you’re trying to do, but it sounds as if your drive is not large enough or is not properly formatted. Only make a reference file if that’s what you want to do. A reference file will only play back when all the media and render files for your sequence are available on your machine. You cannot move it from one computer to another. What are you trying to do? Where are you going when you export?

Except in a few circumstances it’s generally a good idea to render before exporting. Apple recommends you render all media to full. Unrendered effects that slow down the export process can cause issues such as corrupted frames. It’s also a good idea to mixdown the audio before exporting.

You could drag the in or out points in the window, but the trim window is not really designed for dragging. The timeline is. You can use bracket keys to ripple or roll an edit, or comma and period. You can use JKL to ripple or roll dynamically. The trim edit window is a complex tool, too much to explain in a forum message. I really suggest you read the section in the manual or some other instruction tool on using this window.

It does not support ProRes. Nor does it it support AVCHD natively. The media gets transcoded to the Apple Intermediate Codec and any continuous timecode is lost. This is not a good workflow for you.

Doesn’t work for anamorphic media. Best thing to do is to put the text into the timeline before you do anything else, then immediately open the text file from the timeline.

What exactly are you doing make the text? Make sure the timeline is the active window when you select the generator in the popup in the viewer.
