Don’t know if this is Motion integration. There is clearly titling animation tools built into FCP X. There is a button that seems to indicate this. It may well be a canned text animation template that’s built into FCP X, similar to the animation tools in Motion. I’m not convinced the text done there is an integrated Motion project. The icon on the timeline doesn’t look like it would be a Motion project.

Randy didn’t show any of the most basic functionality of how you edit with this thing. How do you select pieces for your timeline and how do you get them into the timeline? It had better not be drag select and drag and drop to the timeline.

Exporting QuickTime Movie in current settings and taking that to Compressor. Even allowing for exporting a self-contained file, in my testing, it was substantially faster than sharing to Compressor, with no discernible difference in quality.

If you use easy setup for HDV it will set an HDV device control. You have to use the Sony HDV capture preset with a non-controllable device preset.

Tall and thin is correct. That’s anamorphic video. In FCE make sure the anamorphic column is checked on for the clips and that you edit in a DV PAL Anamorphic sequence.

In the FCE easy setups you only see specific formats. FCE sequences can only be in these formats. Any other media placed in one if these sequences has to be rendered to conform to the sequence settings.

You output whatever sample rate the sequence is in. If it’s 32k that’s what you output. Whatever’s 22k or 48k gets converted to 32k on output.

Nothing bad happens. You’re just making the 48k into 32k. You’ll probably not notice any difference.

MPEG-4 is not a format edited in FCE. You need to convert the media to a format used by the application. Use MPEG Streamclip to do this. Exactly what you convert to depends on the full specifications of the original media.

No.

“Did I do the DV PAL conversion with MPEG Streamclip improperly?”

Yes. You cannot simply pick a frame size to use. DV PAL is an exact and specific frame resolution. It is always 720×576 pixels. Always. Nothing else. Ever. If you need 16:9 media you click the Options button across from the Compressor and selected 16:9.
