  • Technical Question about Sequence Audio Settings (in Easy Setup)

Posted by Zeke Meginsky on May 13, 2011 at 7:28 pm

Hi. If I have more 32kHz files than 48 kHz files in my project, should I be setting my sequence settings to read 32kHz?

The real question I have is: if I do that, does anything bad happen to the 48 kHz files in the end? Or is it just asking more from the computer to render them on the fly while I’m editing, and that’s it?

Nothing bad happens. You’re just making the 48k into 32k. You’ll probably not notice any difference.

    All the best,

    Well, that wasn’t my understanding..

You’re implying that it changes the 48 kHz files into 32 kHz. But I didn’t think it really changed the quality of the files in the end (when all is done and rendered and compressed and burned, etc)? I thought it just reads them for you in that setting, but in the end retains their original quality and khZ.. is that not true?

You output whatever sample rate the sequence is in. If it’s 32k that’s what you output. Whatever’s 22k or 48k gets converted to 32k on output.

    All the best,

    Tom

Oh, I did not know that!

So really, if you want to be a stickler about sound, you would set the sequence at the best quality audio clip that you have (mine would be at 48 kHz)? If you set it at 32 kHz, you’re essentially downgrading everything above that, right?

And if I want the sequence I already have to have a new audio setting, I would have to change the default in the Easy Setup, and then make a new sequence, and copy and paste my old one?

Thanks so much for the help.
