What’s V1? The primary “track” is called the primary storyline. Clips are connected to it. When you lift a clip out of the primary storyline it makes it a connected clip to a gap clip. When you adjust the duration of your shortened clip and put it back in the storyline, you should have some gap clip remaining. Not sure how this is effecting the audio. Unfortunately I don’t see any simple way to post images on this forum so I can see what you’re doing.

Little light switch icon lower left of the timeline sets timeline appearance and has a slider for height.

Opt-Cmd-Up arrow to lift out of the storyline. Adjust the speed. Trim it how you like. Opt-Cmd-Down arrow to put it back into the storyline.

If the software is truly idiotic you probably shouldn’t use it.
If you have hundreds of transitions and effects, you must have a lot of third party groups. Aren’t they categorizing their content?

Select the click. Cmd-R. Drag the tab at the end of the retiming bar to change the speed.

The only way to remove the drives is to unmount them at the finder level before you launch FCP.
The events and projects folders have to be at the root level.
