Really? Really? I have 100s of filters, transitions etc. I seriously have to navigate the whole mess of them each time I want to add a transition? That is truly idiotic. FCP7 had it and that has EOLd because it is deemed antiquated. What is the logic in not enabling us to streamline our filter use from the 100s on there.

Sorry, that is just plain stupid. There is no way to dress that up as more efficient or evolutionary.

Only a day in and I miss final cut pro 8 more and more. I really wanted to try. I have to given 7 will get broken at some point in the not too distant future, but what sort of sadism is this. Or do they believe their demographic will only want to use page peel and dissolve?

If the software is truly idiotic you probably shouldn’t use it.

If you have hundreds of transitions and effects, you must have a lot of third party groups. Aren’t they categorizing their content?

You can search your hundreds of filters by name, which you couldn’t do in 7, it was that idiotic… 😉

And the favorite folder would empty itself if you had to trash your preferences…

Frankly, the more you insist on using X the way you used 7 the more frustrated you’ll grow and the more you’ll hate X. It is a different piece of software with a different philosophy.

That does not make it perfect but most of its qualities will become obvious if you accept to look at it with a fresh eye.

If you are old enough, think of the days you went from a Zeno DVE to a Quantel Encore, or when you ditched the linear world to go non linear… funny how in those days one had to constantly adapt as there was little standardization of the interfaces we used…

First comment is redundant. I am forced to use something other than my desired platform due to said platform being EOLd and my having to consider the future. Plus if something is idiotic in some areas but you like it does that mean the stupid elements should just stay rather than being mentioned and addressed?

It’s like me saying if you think FCPX 10.0.7 is so great, don’t ever upgrade.

Yes the plugins are listed first by the set they are from but that still leaves a huge list of sets followed by a huge list of plugs in most sets.

Favourites are neatly organised by each individual based on their usage and speed up the editing process and reduce mental clutter whilst trying to focus on the edit.

FCPX is championed for its organisational abilities, and keywords are mentioned a lot by people, so why can’t they add keywords to filers, transitions etc and make an additional area in the filters section called favourites inside which are our keyword folders containing the plugins we selected.

Then bingo, sorted. See, a viable solution, and yet you’d rather I just left the disco because I said the bar shouldn’t have every drink available on the front of the counter. This way you can get your WKD with far less headache.

In case anyone else comes in here and wants a favourites folder, after googling I found a workaround that is pretty decent via another Cow post:

“One solution is select your effect, right click and open in motion, then save as with a new name back into Final Cut into a new grouping called “Favorites”. Works great.

This does indeed work a treat.

And to the post above, yep, search in FCP7 would have been great and I wanted it on many an occasion. But giving us search without giving us favourites is one step forward, one step back. Surely one step forward… ta da!!! further forward, would be better.

And to be honest it isn’t about wanting X to be like 7, it is about wanting X to offer features that are so obviously sensible that they became a big part of why 7 was so great, and why I didn’t move to CS6 in the end.

I think the argument, it isn’t like 7, when X is challenged on things it doesn’t do but 7 did is a tad pointless. Ok, I accept apple did the dirty on 7 and wanted to make X, but I can’t accept that obvious quality of life features have been removed and that makes X better because X is different.

Favourites folder, even via keywords, it is so obvious.
