4. Something’s got to give. The only way is to cut it onto another track until you can find how much space you need and cut that much out of somewhere between 30 and 50 to make room for it. There would be no way to do what you want on a single track.
Use In and Out points to measure durations. Use replace to replace clips. Roll edits to make shots the right length for replacing.

Go to /Library/Application Support/Pro Apps and trash the Final Cut Pro or Studio System ID. You’ll be asked for a new serial number when you next launch the application.

if the browser is really missing you don’t have an open project. Locate your project file on your computer and double click it.

Following your scenario the clips would not be selected. You’d have to go and select them first.
Why group of clips can’t use the swap function I don’t know.
If you think it’s an important function to have then go to Feedback and give details of what you want to do and how you want it to work.

It’s a multistep process. You select the material you want to cut out. You use Shift-X to ripple cut it out of the sequence. You place the playhead where you want it to go. You then use Shift-V to paste insert that material back into the sequence in the new position.
There is no magically move the selected material from where it is to the current playhead position.

It works for me. You have to hold the Option key before you click in the TC box you want to move and continue to hold it until you drop into the new box. Have you tried copy and paste? Does that work for you?

Potentially disastrous. It would frustrate a number of edit functions, anything that rippled the sequence. The only way to lock clips or a group of clips is to put them on separate tracks and lock the tracks. Or nest the items and put the nest on a separate track that you lock.

Yes.
Use Shift-X to ripple cut the selected clips or selected area from the sequence.
Use Shift-V to paste insert at the playhead.

Out of memory error messages refer to RAM not drive space.
It sounds as if the application has not been properly installed. You should uninstall FCP and all its ancillary applications, all receipts, preferences and system IDs and reinstall from the DVDs. Components seem to be missing from your installation. Sim ply installing won’t work as the receipts will tell the computer items are there when they’re not.
