Hi Stewart,
We had a recent show where we experienced this problem. We found it came from earth hum. After removing the earth on our supply feed the problem vanished.

Hi,
We used a 550D recently as a third camera for filming an event. Despite filming for long sections 10-12 minutes at a time and covering a full hour conference we didn’t experience any heat messages or issues in post that wasnt solved whilst colour correcting the whole piece anyway. Was a joy to use.

We have delivered something very similar to this in the past.
We utilized After Effects to create very large canvas sizes, and then by using Dataton Watchout, we stitch them together afterwards. This allows you to utilize maximum quality from your videos whatever the canvas size. Watchout handles all the processing power and can do some really cool things regarding interactivity and multiple language accessibility.
I think the largest video wall we have put our work on was an 18 screen wall at DRUPA in dusseldorf. Watchout was a dream to work with, and After Effects made it very easy. We also had live cameras that were positioned within the VT.

I would always say Dataton Watchout for something like this.

Hi Mandeep,
Delay in timeline would indicate that you are editing in an uncompressed Blackmagic codec which leads to huge file sizes. Unless you have a RAID HDD you will struggle to get a hard drive fast enough to play these files back in real time. Have you tried capturing the files to the Blackmagic MotionJPEG codec? This is more compressed and easier for your HDD to play.
This may also explain problems with the render?

That budget would pay you $18-25 per hour. What about your expenses – the travel, the huge amount of storage needed for each job, the time spent uploading the videos, the probable request for more of your time editing, additional CF or Flash cards, the time your edit suite is tied up doing donkey work while you could be out pitching for profitable work?

I second this – hiring equipment is a very tough thing to make money from, unless you have equipment that is rare or very valuable.

I was asked to produce some video like this at a couple of sites around 50 miles from our office. The client wanted 3 different houses to have 3 minute videos each. They offered £200.
It would have taked the best part of a day to drive, shoot and edit the 3 films and undoubtedly would have needed tweaking after client had seen the finished results as they had virtually no idea of what they wanted it to look like.
I didn’t do it – but I would think that if an estate agency that was dealing with properties of £1.5m+, they might be able to justify more budget – but with the property market still stuttering around the UK it doesnt seem a viable business until that happens.
