New render problem, not quite as bad, but — I successfully accomplished a test transfer of two clips (thank you very much), put them in a timeline, applied a x-dissolve, and now instead of the red “not rendered” line at the top of the timeline, I have a green “sort of rendered” line, and it jerks and fits its way through the edit until I render it, a 20 second process for a three second dissolve. Once rendered it’s beautiful , but this seems like a hell of a way to have to edit. Is this a function of my computer’s processor, or is there a fix for this? This never happened when I was using tape. Thanks, Tom

Stephen, never mind . . . I brilliantly discovered that if I double click the canon plugin icon, voila, it gets installed, and like you say, off I go . . . sheesh. Thanks.

Stephen, sorry to be dense, but . . . you lose me at the point where you say “Then instal the plug-in from Cannon. Open up the Log and Transfer window and you are ready to go.” I’m following Shane’s tutorial as you suggested, downloaded the Canon plug-in and the icon is sitting there on my desktop — but how do I introduce it to FCP? I opened my FCP project > log & transfer, checked the import preferences by clicking on the “sprocket” as Shane demonstrates; however, there’s no Canon option in my source format list, only “MPEG2 consumer cameras, P2 Plugin, and AVCHD plugin”, a so apparently the Canon plugin didn’t get installed or connected to FCP — just to be sure I tried to do the “add volume” step, but when I selected the DCMI file a pop-up warning said the format wasn’t supported. It’s just not clear to me how to use the plugin. I’m sure there’s a very basic maneuver I’m leaving out?
Thanks again, Tom -
Steven, another very, very basic question: how do I get the files to my computer in the first place? In the past, Aperture has downloaded/imported the files automatically because I had it set up to open whenever a camera is attached. Should I then just export the .mov files to my desktop for further processing/coversion, or should I avoid the Aperture step altogether? Trouble is, when I turn off the Aperture auto-launch, nothing shows up and I can’t find the camera’s platform icon anywhere. Any ideas?
Thanks,
Tom

No problem at all once I got it repaired, some $200 later . . .

David, Thanks for the reply.
It’s actually a bit of a mess — The project was shot HD, imported and to imovie HD, edited, exported as QT to FCP (in order to be part of a larger project / dvd which oombined several sequences some in DV some HD. The sequence settings for the big project are NTSC DV 3:2 (we were projecting on a 9×12 screen), which is obviously the problem. I made some changes to the edit in FCP, otherwise I’d upload from the imovie version … which maybe I’ll have to do in the end?
Thanks for your time,
Tom
