Yep. I’ve already installed Quicktime 7 and put in my old FCP7 codes. I’m not a big fan of QTX because of it’s limited ability to export to a different format. I still use QT7 as a “Mini Compressor”.

    Thank you, Brent
I installed the Quicktime components using your instructions and all is well in Quicktime again.
The AVC Intra files are now being recognized by Qiucktime and will play normally.
    Thanks again!

Convert all of the Mp4 the clips to ProRes and your issues should go away. FCP does not work well with compressed clips. like Mp4 or H264.

Just unlink the video from the audio. Highlight the clip, go to MODIFY>LINK or press Command “L”. That should do it.

  • Don’t run the head cleaning tape for very long-it’s very abrasive and can actually ruin your heads! be sure to follow the directions that should have come with the tape.

  • It sounds like your heads in the camera may be clogging up. It’s been a while, but you used to be able to buy a head cleaning “tape” that you put into the camera and play for a few seconds that would clean the heads.
Here’s a link to a YouTube video that explains it in more detail.

  • Two things may be possible.
Are you sure that the camera you are playing the tape on is good? Does it play back other tapes? Bad/clogged heads could cause this. Or just a broken camera…
Was the tape possibly recorded at the slow speed DV setting on a different camera and you are trying to play it back on a camera that cannot play the slower format?
and (OK, I guess THREE things) Is the tape possibly recorded in the HDV format? It’s not compatible with DV but it uses the same tapes?
What camera was the original tape recorded on? What camera (deck) are you using for playback?

I doubt that you could even get a broadcast facility to accept a 55 sec. spot. Must commercials are sent via FTP sites and many are automated when spots are uploaded. If your spot is anything but 60 seconds to the frame, it will likely be rejected just for that alone.
I’ve never heard of anyone trying to air a 55 second spot. It makes no sense and no broadcast station is going to have a 55 sec. slot to run it in. It would require them to, at the very least, fill in the remaining time with????

Tell your client that it’s a dumb idea…nicely of possible.

Check out the Black Magic Designs ATEM Television Studio. It will do everything you need to do in a small, self contained package. Here’s a link:

If they can’t buy one, depending on your area, it may be possible to rent a unit.

Yes, It should be backwards compatible. I have seen some older oxide tapes “tear” a bit in an SP machine, but it largely depends on the condition of the older tape as well as that of the playback machine.
