Yes, for the near future anyway. The production workflow here is based on FCP at this point and won’t likely change soon. It works so we’re sticking with it for now.

Not familiar with this box directly, but looking at the specs on the Black Magic web site, it doesn’t mention anything about downconversion of HD to SD on playback. You are right. Your switcher doesn’t support HD signals, so my guess is that the component signals you are feeding to it are (should be) HD analog when your timeline is HD, which the switcher can’t use. Most Black Magic cards/devices should have software to control the device. It’s often in the preferences panel on a Mac. You might check there for additional controls. See if there is a box to enable the downconvert function, if it exists. I know the Decklink Extreme card has this feature and a control for it.
I’m thinking that for the price point of your box, it might not have the ability to downconvert, but this is purely a guess.E=MC2+/-2db

I’ve had this problem of the timeline “duplicating” tracks before as well. Usually a quick restart of FCP would solve the issue for me.

Go to the bottom of the timeline. There is a little disclosure triangle on the bottom left side. Open it up and check the “show duplicate clips” (or something like that-I’m not in front of the keyboard right now). This will put a colored line on the top of the clips in the timeline than have been used more than once..

The Leitch could work for you depending on what options the switcher has and what outputs the Leitch unit has. If the switcher has the sync pulse regenerator option, you can use a black output from the Leitch to sync you camera to the switcher. The DVD player will still require a Frame Sync if you need to mix or key over it through the switcher.
Explaining how to time an analog system through this forum would be difficult. You might try and find someone locally who is familiar with analog systems and tap them for the information. It’s easy to show to someone but difficult to explain through emails.
