Thanks, Rafael: encoding is my weak spot. I’d love to see a book or some other document that uses an “if-than” approach: “If you have a FCP timeline that you want to export to DVD, use THIS codec and THESE settings” kind of thing.

Just trying to find out if anyone has any insight as to whether a person in Nepal might be able to watch an NTSC DVD on their players. I hear that most European players can do both, but is that the case in Asia?

Is that true? PAL DVD players will play NTSC discs? I’ve just finished a film about Nepal and need to send it to a friend there and was pretty sure I needed to pay to have a PAL disc conversion or do it myself in FCP/Compressor/DVD Studio, but if it’s not required that would be awesome. Anyone else have any thoughts on this?

If that’s not the case, does anyone have any thoughts on the best workflow to take a Final Cut Pro sequence that’s going to DVD Studio and set it up so it will look as good as possible in PAL? The sequence is currently in HDV NTSC.

I haven’t used the garbage matte filter before. Once I apply it to the V2 clip, how do I crop so it is only affecting the window? Thanks – I do want to try this before getting into Color, as suggested by another poster.

Thanks: I think you are right: I started editing before I knew what I was doing in terms of setup, and I think now, a year later, I’m paying for my ignorance, but I think I found a workaround – I’m exporting each segment as a quicktime file and bringing it back into a new sequence, which hopefully will solve my problem, and should also make my file sizes more manageable for DVD authorint. Thanks for the quick response.
