I really depends on what kind of work you do.
If you do mostly narrative kind of projects without the need for graphics and are sent out for audio sweetening, color correction or special effects I would suggest Avid. Its Media Management is second to none.And If you plan to work within the Hollywood industry, Avid currently dominates there.
If you wear many hats and need to do editing audio, graphics as a one man band I suggest CS6. Its suite of software is extremely powerful for a wide range of projects.

Massive testing seems to indicate other apps like MPEG Streamclip and VLC Media Player have exactly the same problem.
So it appears to be more an HP and/or Windows 7 issue and nothing to do with Adobe.

Amen to what Walter said.
I use DL link between PrP and AE a lot when Im in the tweaking process. But once Im happy with the comp, I render and export a movie (with the project link option checked) from AE. I then Import and replace clip in PrP. With the project link embedded in the movie file, I can always reopen the AE project by selecting “Edit Original” when the clip is highlighted.

When I installed the DNxHD codecs for the PC I just clicked on the executable file and it knew what to do.
