My workflow involves creating a master of projects by saving that in the DNxHD (for PCs) or Prores (for Macs) format. I then archive this on a data dvd . I use this master to make whatever kind of copies I might need in the future, like h.264 for distribution or whatever.
This might not apply to your particular needs but is generally regarded in the industry as a good way to do things.

The GTX Titan has was released several weeks ago so it is available. Get on a waiting list at Newegg and you can have one within a week in most cases. They are so popular they fly out the door as soon as they are in stock.

If I understand you correctly, using the fire as a track mask for your primary video image might be what you are looking for.

My vote is for the GTX Titan card since I use PrP and AE.

It is reported that PrP Next will see multiple GPUs so that might change things for those wanting more GPU power in PrP.

I keep my Media cache on my fastest drive and not on my OS disk. In my case its an external PCI-E raid.

Depending on your comfort level with altering animation key frames, doing it line by line might be faster or easier.

Without having AE open in front of me, I would think by creating a duplicate animation key frame then sliding it forward you could create the pause between each lines revealing.

The nature of the project determines if the effect is appropriate. For action adventure type projects “Shaky Cam” can be very effective. For corporate communication pieces, not so much. 😀
