That did the trick. My apologies for blending you and the other John together. But in fact I did enjoy doing your reflectivity tutorial. And I do appreciate your knowledgable help today.

I just found aliasing control under the camera prefs, but with no visible improvement.

With the text correctly mapped…when I tumble the object to its resting place close to the camera, the text looks abit soft and aliased. Yet its dimensions allow it to be wrapped perfectly on the extruded surface. I check for preferences relating to quality and aliasing, but all I found was Object Faceting which was set for the best quality.

Actually it hasnt always been that way. FCP 5 didnt have the excessive render times for Motion 2 projects embedded in the FCP timeline at all. This is a new development.
And to be honest, its just one of several issues that engineering and administration determined were not suited to the work flow and general reliability including; consistant loss of renders when making copies of sequences (admitted to by Apple), inefficient workflow from lo res to high res and generally weak media manager abilites to manipulate media and projects).
It just doesnt work for us at this time. We will review its capabilities sometime in the future.

Yes , that is a real drag. Hopefully Apple will address it soon. Its one of several reasons why the facility I work at decided to put FCP 2 on the back burner for a while.
I wish Apple could focus more on FCP, it really deserves and needs the attention.

Check out the Zaxwerks form. Invigomany is a product for use with 3D Invigorator that is a library of objects. I believe a
    basketball is included.

Boy Im certainly am glad I have the luxury of a “wait and see” attitude before I sink major bucks into a 8 core system for my FCS2 at home. I empathize with the trauma that folks like Stephen Hopes must be going through. At this rate, it might be around NAB (hopefully) that I make the purchase Ive been anticipating for about a year now. Or maybe not at all if Apple doesnt aknowledge and fix these very basic crucial
    problems.

I had the same exact problem and it turned out the person providing the animation had the latest version of QT and I had the previous. When I upgraded it worked, but I also had to repurchase QT Pro…which seemed like a scam to me.
