Sorry Rikk, but Ive worked with Avid MC, DS and FCP. And at one time or another I have had to contend with corrupted media. Stuff happens in all NLEs 😉

If your having lots of problems with PrP 5.5 it might be due to your computer or familiarity with the software.

I copy the media from cards / hard drives / or what erever to OWC 500GB hard drive. This is my archive. Then I copy these on to my Raid 5 array. This way the raid will rebuild itself if there are problems. The storage media (cars) always gets recycled for the next project since they are expensive. This is why I back them up to the OWC drive. Most working professionals tend to back up one more time to another OWC drive. This way its in three places. This is SOP for most video production facilities that I have worked at.

Im being proactive and researching a switch to the PC so there will be no surprises if indeed the Mac Pro line is suspended. The PC is no threat to me since Ive cut on it with MC and DS and had a Dell at home for AE many years ago. I dont relish the thought of the PITA process of crossgrading software and plugins, but the added choice of graphics cards and a system with a future will be well worth it.

I agree with Josh. Another reason to export from AE is that due to multiprocessing, AE renders much faster then PrP. So when you do all that work in AE and export it to the PrP timeline, when PrP exports the project it doesn’t have a lot of computing to do with that clip. As opposed to having a AE dynamically linked clip on the PrP timeline which would demand more rendering time from PrP as it exported the sequence.
