This seems like a good approach to me. When you slo-mo the DVCAM-originated footage for your backgrounds will you not apply frame-blending anyway, which will eliminate the effects of interlacing altogether?

Do you have After Effects? Your challenge is to make a decent matte in the black area around Mick. You might be able to use Keylight’s more extensive tools to get to “decent.” As a quick experiment you might try several layers of your color corrected Mick in Screen mode on top of each other. This should get you a thicker Mick.

I spose you can open one of the wmv’s in Windows and see what the properties say. Or Quicktime on a Mac with Flip4Mac. That entry in the user guide would put me off if it’s up to date. WM-8 was good, but WM-9 is better. Truth be told, I have not had great success with Windows Media encoding on the Mac at all. If I want good results, I still go to Squeeze or the Windows Media Encoder on a Windows machine. Sad but true.

Yes, that makes sense. Maybe I’ve overlooked something on how to modify a setting without having to duplicate it first. I’ll take a more careful look at it. Thanks.

This is a topic that hasn’t sunk in very well for me. Let’s say I’ve got FCP working just fine and I have used FCP Rescue 6 to save a backup of my prefs. Now, I want to delete a stupid Easy Setup that I created. So I exit FCP and I delete the thing using finder. Then I use FCP Rescue 6 to trash my FCP prefs. This sets FCP to default settings, right? Then, I use FCP Rescue 6 to restore prefs from its backup. At this point, have I reinstated that stupid Easy Setup or will it stay gone? I guess there’s no harm in trying that exact sequence of events, but I’m thinking you probably know the answer. Thanks.

Interesting product, VisualHub. But its User Guide says the WMV it makes is WM V8. Can you make WMV with VisualHub without having the Flip4Mac plug-in on your computer?

There’s a free plug-in that might be useful – the one called Clock.

You could create the board with logos in Photoshop and place the clock on top of that. Digital Heaven also has a clock plug for $20. -
Does it spin the other way when you advance frame by frame in the Viewer?

Thanks Rafael, but I do happen to know all about those issues. I will step out of this thread, since I do not have a DSR-11 and cannot help the original poster. I agree that Free Run should only be used in specific cases that require it — for example, synchronizing several camcorders to the same timecode.

TC Free run is used to synchronize the internal timecode generator to an external timecode source. Have you never had occasion to use it in that way?
