[Shane Ross] “You cannot capture with FCP and send it to Avid or Premeire or Vegas.”

Wouldn’t uncompressed 4:2:2 qt-mov be fine with everything?

Btw, PD (professional disk, which xdcams use) should be more reliable for archiving than plain consumer blu-ray. They sell PD drives for pc’s for just data recording.

[Yogifilm] “As it is today we are using around 2-3 hours a day to ingest/backup/merge”

Yep, tapeless workflow is faster than light…
Sorry that I can’t help with the problem, but doesn’t European Panasonic have any help?
Are you the only one using p2 for 25p in the continent?
    Nobody else had any experience?

[brianluce] “how do go from the timeline to the dvcpro deck? component or firewire?”

Why don’t you just buy cheap decklink sdi card and output from your edit station straight to digibeta?
Much cheaper than buying dvcpro50 vtr.
If you can’t bring the vtr to your edit, take your edit to the vcr.

[Frank Nolan] “The DVCPro stream is actually measured in MegaBytes per second.”

    Wrong. DvcPro50 is 50M_bit_/s.

I forgot to ask that hope you have a very safe UPS behind the stacker.
Think about massive electric shock that brakes every hdd inside.
Or maybe two sets of hdd’s where the others are always power off when
    the others are on…

CMStacker is _nice_ and raid5 is a good option.
But when you are holding many years of work in it, I’d think another option also.
In case the case gets burned up with the house it lies in or get stolen.
HP’s Ultrium 3 and maybe blu-ray later this year.
With those it’s easy to make double back-ups and store them in another building (or continent..:-)

Another thing I’d like to know is that, is the “pal” model going to be out before nab2007?
Seems to be that hvx200 (introduced at nab2005) pal version might not be out before nab2006…

I hope they introduce “native” framerates with 1080 also.
It just sounds a bit silly to mandatory waste 20% of the bandwidth and storagespace just because of legacy compability with tapes that we are trying to get rid of.
With that spared bandwidth they could either increase the resolution or decrease the compression ratio (better if there would be option for user for both).

And 10bit colors, Infinity is coming…

[gary adcock] “all “in-camera” recording formats are 8bit”

Hmmm, digibeta is 10b and so is Infinity…
