Btw, jvc is advertizing hd-sdi option to it’s 100.
Does anybody have a clue will that mean really 10bit uncompressed or just some lame fw-sdi converter?
If it really is 10bit colors out of $6k camera, then I think Panny should follow the fashion. -

And uprezzed 4:3 PAL will look anyway so ugly in 16:9 HD, that framerate conversion does not make the quality much worse.
On the other hand, what’s keeping broadcaster’s to change framerate by program basis?
Receivers will handle all flawors. -
[Jan Crittenden Livingston] “I too like the design. There are lots of ergonomic considerations in there.”
One thing I would have copied from fx1/z1 is to place lcd in the front of the camera.
That way you can look more closely on your subject at a same time as looking lcd.
Looking down whole day gets a really bad neck ache. Not necessarily to side of cam mic, maybe between zoom ring and auto-focus knob might also work…

Is jvc really going to launch hdv50 cameras?
I just read that 7000 will be 25Mbps only… -

Maybe I’ve got a bit rough to give my opinions, because spending too much time in (Finnish) usenet news.
There you really have to take your stand… Or maybe it’s a language issue… or cultural (if you have seen any Aki Kaurism -
Yep, so it’s no no for live recording to off the shelf fw/usb-hdd.
So much for sbp2 while recording…
Although that would have needed a bit more intelligence inside the camera; it can record in file format to p2 but not to external hdd.
Now we need this intelligence at the other end of fw-cable, just like before. -
Well, I don’t think the camera will record longitudal _analog_ audio track to p2…
Btw, I believe that PAL dv & dvcam has 4:2:0 because designers thought that PAL has enough more lines than NTSC to give it better horizontal chroma resolution. This is also quite nice when outputting to dvd, because mpeg2 is 4:2:0 also. (That might be also reason why you don’t get so good dv->dvd in ntsc and so there has been quite a bigger need for dvcpro50 & digibeta to get a good quality dvd in ntsc.)

And option to hand over a mini dv tape which have overspeed stuff (720p60 downconverted to 480p24/30) after a job to some producer sounds very compelling…

This hdv soup is beginning to look a farce and I’m not going to touch it with a ten foot pole. Reminds me about new revolutionary DV which broke very fast to dv, dvcam & dvcpro and 1st gen decks couldn’t play each other. So hdv50 will be the fourth incompatible member of a happy family!
Btw, I see this 1080 pull-down thing as a very minor problem.
But anyway, some day Panny will have to make new dsp’s and then the codec might get better.
And that can’t take many years any more…About that time that NLE vendors can add new support to new codecs; it’s been only half a year that hdv cameras have been available and already almost all support it. So I won’t believe they would have any problems to support a little bit improved dvcproHD codec.
Sidenote: it was quite funny, after I proposed in the “elephant” thread for HQ recording straight to DLT tape, to listen to this DVguys radioshow where Jan talked about DLT being a good choise for back up!
How about Varicam2 with internal DLT deck and dvcpro288 codec? :-

Well, if you notice the difference with your own eyes, then you should go for it.
In the end we are all making products to be seen, not to be calculated by some machine!
