July 20, 2005 at 3:06 pm in reply to: P2 workflow – how to manage source files?

[Noah Kadner] “Who at Seagate would say this? Doesn’t speak too well for their company.”

Or it does speak very well for the company. They are being honest.
Of course not all 5-years-on-the-shelf drives would not work, otherwise they couldn’t give 5 year warranty, but there might be something like 1% does not start.

I’m voting for optical archive. 50GB brd’s will be the cheapest, fastest and easiest way.

July 20, 2005 at 2:57 pm in reply to: Might this affect P2 memory card pricing/availability?

[Noah Kadner] “P2 uses SD cards- not NAND.”

And what type of memory sd cards use?

July 11, 2005 at 11:20 pm in reply to: True HD?

    [Jesse Rosen] “Indeed, it’s a Sony SRW-1 HDCAM-SR VTR.”

So that is indeed the first one-piece 1920x1080p 4:4:4 tape format camera.
Processing units are inside “camera chassis” and tape vtr in film mag’s place.

Viper+Venom is about same, although no tape and much reduced recording time.

Is that vcr in top of that Panavision’s Genesis, in a place where film mag used to be?
Or is it just processor unit?

[Graeme Nattress] “Well, there’s no camera that records uncompressed HD to tape”

Actually there is: D6 aka Voodoo.
Not on the camera, but the van next to the camera 🙂
    And yes, price is ridiculous…

Was it already confirmed that 720p24 is 40Mbps?
    Might citidisk work with that?

I’d say that it’s about time to hear some specs.
What will be the chips’ resolution, Jan?

[tony salgado] “Two days ago I viewed a 2K projection test of the Dalsa Origin camera.”

Did you happen to notice what projector they used?

[Michael] “BUT I’M A CAMERA NERD AND WORK IN THE FILM INDUSTRY!!! MOST AUDIENCE MEMBERS ARE NOT LIKE YOU OR ME!!! AND THAT WAS MY ORIGINAL POINT!”

If the movies were made by consumer standards, how bad would they look if you look today’s films that are made with professional standards?

Average audience does not even realize the cuts and they surely not should be able to analyze the picture quality. Movie should be an emotional experience and PQ should be something that gives a feeling in subconsciousness.

[tony salgado] “For those who cannot or will not accept there is or may be a quality difference between a 2/3″ CCD camera versus a 1/2 or 1/3″ CCD”

Thinking about DoF, the difference between 480p 2/3″ and 720p 1/3″ (or 720p vs. 1080p) might be quite small, if the lenses are sharp enough, because 1/3″ has smaller SoC.
    Anyone care to calculate?

    Sensivity will be different though…
