I edit everywhere, on everyone’s machine. So, I’ve seen it all. I guess I’ll go with a single widescreen. As I think about it more and more, I can’t stand how the colors begin to drift as the monitors age. It wouldn’t be so bad, but they never seem to go in the same direction.

The HDV deck or camera must be sending video to the computer in order for FCP to see it. Try pressing play on the camera/vtr, then pause, then apple8 (capture mode). If you go into capture mode before you play/pause the deck it will give you a “failed to find device” warning.

I used John’s reccomedation and it is working perfectly. I just jammed my sources in, no finesse, no reading the manual, and it work flawlessly. Nice work whomever!

I would record to the camera or VTR then capture.

Isn’t there an input level slider in the capture window/capture settings?
Crank it to the right.

I have no choice when using the DVDs. I am working on a show that reviews some movies (on DVD) and some packages for broll are only available on DVD. The dub process is an avoidable pain, isn’t it?

What software can rip it for me?

the source is HDCAM dubbed from film @ paramount. There are no TC breaks.

For instance, if i capture 10 clips from a tape, each clips TC is reset to begin @ ZEROs and the source is reset to 001.
