Most likely it has something to do with the AJA software. We have an Intensity Pro card and every so often something happens and we have to uninstall the software and then reinstall. Even that doesn’t seem to help until I unplug the deck and plug it back in while it is on and the Log and Capture window is open. In fact, try that first. Just unplug and then plug in while the deck is on and capture is open.

You can also go into your preferences on A/V and see if the digitizer is there for AJA. If it says ‘missing’ for sure just reinstall your AJA software.

January 3, 2008 at 10:37 pm in reply to: Sony EX1…”NO HOLES BARRED REVIEW”

Philip, thanks for the terrific review. As we are looking at picking up a few more cameras the decision has come down to the HVX and the EX-1.

Having played with the camera a bit, I am familiar with some of the “faults” you noted. One, as silly as it is, that you didn’t mention but was quite annoying for me was the balance of the camera. The softball with zoom controls and a pivoting feature stuck to the side of the body really make the camera awkward to hold with one hand.

Over the years we have shot with everything from the vx2000 to the v1u and even the HVX. They all feel quite balanced and if you’re adjusting a setting on the fly it is fairly easy to hold any of these camera with one hand and not be too shaky about it. We are in the field a lot dodging bullets, or chasing them, climbing in/out/up/down things, running, crawling, etc. and the EX-1 seems like it would make for really bad handheld work (bad as in ultra difficult).

Besides that, I think the camera is top notch!

August 17, 2007 at 10:02 pm in reply to: Time code when capturing via HDMI & Intesnsity Pro?

Up and running, but not smoothly. We have our Intensity pro card installed in our new 3.0 Quad Core (intel). We can get audio/video via HDMI in the final cut log and capture but are unable to get time code and deck control.

For the moment we are using a sony HC-5 as our deck.

What ‘easy setup’ or audio/video setting should we use to achieve HDMI capture and time code/deck control via firewire?

    thanks and best wishes,

thanks for both your input. We just picked up our new octa-core and threw in our new intensity-pro card so we are glad to know that everything works like we have heard it does. We can’t wait to get digitizing all of our footage. We’re behind schedule as it is and we have a week long shoot next week so time to get cranking!

    best wishes,
