> Mac Mini with its onboard Intel graphics is not compatible with GPU acceleration in AE
That’s not entirely true. It’s only true about the GPU acceleration of the ray-traced 3D renderer, which depends on CUDA.
The OpenGL features work fine on the Intel GPUs.
See this page for details:

You must uninstall that.
If you don’t have Nvidia CUDA hardware (which you don’t), you must not install Nvidia CUDA driver software. If you install a driver for a piece of hardware that you don’t have, you can badly confuse applications (like After Effects) into thinking that your computer has capabilities that it doesn’t. In this case, you can trigger a crash, since After Effects may try to call hardware that isn’t there.
For details of how After Effects uses the GPU, see this page:

I’d do that in Cinema 4D.

Your composition has a grey solid layer at the top. Your Composition panel is showing a grey frame. That seems to be correct.
It’s still not clear to me what your problem is.

That button has been removed from the Timeline panel in After Effects CC (12.0) and later. It caused a tremendous amount of trouble; new users who were exploring the application by just clicking buttons would turn off Live Update by clicking that button and have no idea what they’d done, and then later they’d be confused because previews weren’t updating as they changed properties.
The functionality hasn’t been removed. As you have shown, you can still use the menu command and keyboard shortcuts to invoke it. There just is no longer a button in a place where it was mostly clicked by accident by beginners.
BTW, this and every other change in After Effects CC (12.0) is described in “what’s new and changed in After Effects CC (12.0)”:
“The Live Update button has been removed from the Timeline panel. You can still enable or disable Live Update functionality with the command in the Timeline panel menu and the keyboard shortcuts (Alt on Windows or Option on Mac OS).”———————————————————————————————————

Sounds like your composition frame rate is different (likely 30fps).

Then I’d recommend starting a new thread asking how to make a moving sparkle on text (or whatever other specific technique you need).

Why not just make your own? It’s easy enough to create a text layer with the word ‘replay’ and then experiment with adding a little something extra to it.
One technique that I like for simple text bugs is to add the “Bevel and Emboss” layer style and then turn the Fill Opacity in the Advanced Blending category of Blending Options down to 0%. This leaves just the embossed imprint of the text.
