You didn’t mention how the text is suppose to read? SO maybe rotating the layer would work.

But for the ‘scew’- spining the image about 50 degrees a good placement of the layer will give you that look. Playing with the Z-space will also add to it.

I believe that feature went away since Media 100HD now has unlimited video layers. How would it know which one to choose?

I’m a little fuzzy on what you are trying to do, but you can use the bin browser to pick any clip you want to composite with Boris. You need to think Boris is more like a compositor in the timeline, rather than the way it use to be. So you’d need to bring in all of your elements from bins, files, etc,- timeline is a place holder, not where you will get your media from. Make sense?

    Hope this helps.

    Ah!!
    Got it.
Funny, it works perfectly when the text window is closed. But when I had the text window open, it ran some of the updates through that window.

    Much better.
Thanks for taking the time to explain it. It’s a HUGE time saver!!

    Thanks for your response Anne.
    That does help.
BUT when trying to moditfy font size and font type it is NOT reflected in the comp window. Only in the text window, then you STILL have to click update for it to load into the comp window.

Since Boris is our primary text editor we need it to be as fliud as possible. Making font changes and size change is a BASIC function and usually one of the first things that an editor will do when using Boris. Clicking ‘update’ everything one makes a font change or size chenge is one step TOO many.

Is this something that will be addressed??

    Thanks Ken and Steve.
Unfortuatly any larger camcorder BetaCam style probably won’t be an option. As I said in the first post, since I only have 1 SDX, but I’ll have multiple crews it will be better to stick with one format. Don’t get me wrong, I’m sure I’ll shoot a lot with the SDX, just not the stuff that has multiple crews along.

I didn’t really think about the iris ring….that’s a good point. Do any of the 4k-8k camcorders have a iris ring? Probably not
Also, I’m a little surprise that Cops would go out with 2 man crews? There’s no room left in the car?

MOS-mit out sound. From the Germans directors that couldn’t say ‘with’ That’s why I said, Man on the street. But I’ve never hear the Triple A before?

    Hi Ty,
it looks like you’re in the ballpark.
You will probably be happy with any of them. I am a little concerned about the Sachtler only supports 13lb?
Can you take the head from option B with the sticks from option C? LOL I don’t know how important the sticks are? If you don’t need to lug it around, then Aluminum would be OK, but you may not want to ware yourself out with heavy sticks. I don’t know how big of a guy are you? So, maybe Aluminum may not be that heavy.

Here’s the thing, a tripod/head purchase is something that you will use for YEARS to come. Since a good head/tripod can last a long time (with proper care), you want to spend your money the right way, the first time.
Although I spend A LOT of money for the companies I work for, if it was my personal money, $1,300 is a lot of dough.
You might want to check ebay as well, those will be your best deals. Private party to private party.

    Woa, Woa, Woa.
Slow Down, do not pass go, do not collect $200!
I have 8 503 heads, I would NOT recommend them for XL-2. We use all of them exclusively on XL-2s and I find them to be rough to start and stop with. One they start moving, ya their smooth, but not what you want if you need a smooth start.
Peter was correct, you can get a pretty decent one for around $1k. I already mentioned about sticks, see first post.

If you want to get a 503 head you should try it or demo one before you buy. Even for around $300, if it’s not going to work for you, then it’s a waste of money. I’m not bad mouthing Manfrotto or the other posters, you just need to use your own judgement.

You can go back and forth with people who love something or hate it.

    HI Ken,
    I agree.
If it was just me going out, I would take the SDX900. But some of the other crews will be less experenced and would need too much training. Also renting 4 SDX packages would be cost prohibitive.
So I’m kind of stuck with the Pro-sumer camcorder for size and easy of use.

    Ty,
As I’m sure you are aware, ‘you get what you pay for.’ I find this to be especially true of Tripods/Heads. I don’t make a lot of recommendations for Tripod/heads because the good ones cost so much $$. I would usually recommend the big 3 Sachtler, Vinten, Miller.(one can probably add O’connor as well as some other makers) We have one Sachtler Tripod head that cost as much as the camera!
BUT, Manfrotto just release their ‘best’ head. (that sounds kind of dirty) that I saw at NAB, it is really nice and smooth. We have a lot of Manfrotto heads, but this is the only one that I would recommend. Actually, it looks like they have 2 of the same kind. 519 & 526. The sticks aren’t as critial, carbon fiber with quick release and elevated spreaders are my favorite.
What you didn’t say is what you are going to be doing. Sports? Interviews? Traveling? Studio? etc. If you’re not going to do a lot of ‘on camera’ panning and tilting, then you probably could get by with a less exspensive model.

    FWIW,

If memory serves, if the FW ports are going bad, you would need the logic board replaced. SOmething that a certified Apple Tech would have to do. If it’s under warranty they no problem, but I doubt it is, if not, I would be much cheaper buying another FW card.

I don’t remember the behavior of the FW ports before they went bad? You might try hooking up a FW drive to see if it can stay active with a hard drive. Maybe a camera/FW thing?

    Good luck,
